Hi altogether!!!
When replacing the gas tank of my 71 Charger I found some kind of extra tank on the rear end of the driver side. This extra tank is connected with the gas tank by 4 or 5 hoses and has something to do with the gas return flow as far as I know. My problem currently is that this extra tank has a hand full of very small holes in one area being a result of corrosion. The holes look like being made with a tiny needle. I tried to repair this but I am not able to give myself the guarentee that this will be sufficient for the future. Is there anyone of you having such a tank left? Or does anyone of you know an address where I can buy this extra tank?
Thanks in advance & best regards, Joachim
EDIT: Found out that this item is called "Vapor Canister"

Yep, that's your vapor canister. Later models moved under hood, and are plastic.
There's been one of those on ebay for a while. About $100 IIRC. If you try fixing yours by brazing or welding, beware of explosive vapors.

JBWeld As for safety, fill it with soapy water before adding heat. Heat will help the JBWeld to flow into the holes Might be able to dimple the holes, use the JBWeld, sand n paint it into a pretty good looking restoration piece.

From Brock Off my thread: ECS is Evaporation Control System. I think it shows up as N95 on the fender tag. It is used in the fuel system on California cars. It replaces the 49 state CAS fuel/vapor seperater with atmospheric vent tube. I bought mine off Ebay complete with the splash shield...and a Used Tank, and a filler tube...all was mint for $50!........so they do come up I doubt the one on Ebay will sell for $100.........email the seller and offer him $40?.....I do that ALL the time to see if they will sell..... I wouldnt bother doing a temp repair as it will rust somewhere else again no doubt......buy a decent one and save time/hassel later..... Thats my opinion, but my wife came home cranky and now the whole house is cranky including me

with GreenGo that rotted out sheetmetal is going to continue to rot. This is especially true if it is just covered over. Thanks for the quote about ECS, GreenGo - but that is all I did - quote it from a book. I have no idea what the ECS canister was made of before they went to plastic. I had it in my mind that this canister is made of brass & could be easily cleaned & protected for years of renewed service. Dunno. If it is sheetmetal, Molasses will do in about a month.

Thanks for your support. Saw the item on ebay for $100,00 but it doesn't look better than mine. Used cold metal in (gas resistant) in order to close the tiny holes, made the canister blank as far as possible, covered it with ARMY anticorrosion paint (od) full of lead and painted it black after that. Should be ok for a while but def. not forever. The splash shield (two parts) isn't in the best condition, too but these are available at AMD. In case of not getting this canister in a condition good enough ('til now there are no reproductions available) for an adequate price I will try to build one by myself although it will be a little bit time-consuming. We'll see.
Anyway: In case of anyone of you will have such a canister for sale in the future (or know someone selling one who's not active in this forum) - let me know.

Well I was about to start my own thread on this, but I guess it's appropriate to just add to this one. Hey Dodger3000, at least you have the vapor canister, my 71 came with nothing. Hear is a pic of where I guess it should go. My question to the experts is, do I even need this thing? My guess is prob not. Next question is what should I do with the four vent holes coming out the drivers side of the tank? Don't think capping them is a good idea due to pressure build up. Leaving them uncapped will prob lead to fuel sloshing out on aggressive cornering. Got any solutions? s697.photobucket.com/albums/vv334/rocky61201/Suspension/?action=view¤t=100_1182.jpg
