I bought a case of this at 4.96 per quart, plus 15.00 shipping. If you take the time to click on the various tabs on the website, I promise you will know more about the ZZDP subject than you ever wanted to know. www.classiccarmotoroil.com/products.htmlI'm moving this to Engines....and sticky-ing it for later reference.

Why do old engines need it and new ones don't ? I have a 440 with about 6000 miles on it and I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic in it. After reading another thread about oil I did get a bottle of zinc additive and put in. I haven't decided what I will use next oil change, still trying to learn about oil.

Now if they would offer it in a straight 30 instead of multi grade only. I know the advantages of the multi grade and the supposed advantages of synthetic but my engine builder and cam manufacturer for my 440 want straight 30 conventional oil with zinc. The builder requires this for his warranty and the engine cost me $9,000 so I will use what he requires.
I use multi grade in all my other vehicles as recommended by the manufacturer, all conventional oil except the Corvette which specifies Mobil 1 and the GMC which has a service contract so the dealer is the only place to change the oil. Everything else we do at my shop. I don't believe there are advantages in synthetic to justify the cost but will use it where it is specified.

Well, let me for a moment. First, I have a problem with them charging $9.00 (and up) plus shipping for motor oil that should cost the same as any other oil. For years our oil had zinc in it. Now because they removed it, they want us to pay for replacing it in the oil. It's a racket. Second, I have had numerous engine builders and mechanics tell me NEVER to use synthetic oil in our older cars. Guys who supposedly know what they are talking about. Why is synthetic more expensive if it is not real oil? Got me? Again, it's a racket. over!

But I saw the commercials. Synthetic oil can withstand 500+ degrees. Your engine will be toast but the oil will be ok.

Valvoline Racing Synthetic and conventional have a lot of zinc and various weights. It is readily available at most parts stores.

It's hard to tell between old wife's tales and fact when it comes to oil, it seems to me it all depends on who your asking and what they have heard over the years but not so much on hard fact. Most guys I've asked about what oil they use have a brand they prefer based on one event they or a friend had at some time good or bad so they use this one or that one. I still don't understand what is so different about new and old engines that requirements are not the same; I can understand different weights but not zinc content. This forum has been very helpful to me to learn a wide range of info and knowing the right oil for my 73 is important to figure out; I can't afford to rebuild it especially over something stupid like using wrong oil.
