Finally took the Charger in to my mechanic and he now is gonna install a new FiTech EFI system on the car. * * After years of messing around with the carb setup and trying to get rid of the hesitation issues I have saved the monies to have this done. I will pick up the car in 2 weeks. He knows exactly what needs to be done. He owns 2 68 Chargers, a 70 GTX and a 72 Charger and all have nice EFI's on them. Before everyone asks if I did this or did that, yes.......I went thru every suggestion possible about what could be causing the hesitation and stalls and have many new parts and items because of this. Looking forward to the outcome.

I have been fantasizing about a Fitech electronic fuel injection system . Will you be buying the command center, so you don't need to run an any lines or a new high presser pump from the fuel Tank? The cammand center lets you use your original fuel pump. I think it another $350 or so. I don't have a hesitation issue but would love the quick starts of a modern car and any other improvement it may bring.
Would love to see pictures and hear about your results.. I wish I had a mechanic who owns old Mopars/classic cars near me.

New cable hookup and O2 sensor installed, new electronic control module to automatically take care of the spark advance, new distributor and a few other fun stuff. Not an expert on these and never schooled on these but heard a lot of good things about EFI's that more and more folks are going to them. This was recommended by many. I trust my mechanic when he says I definitely will see the difference. I will try to put pics here when its done.

Its on my list of upgrades for the Charger. I'm no expert on it either. Though I was thinking of doing the installation (some day) when priorities allow. Since your getting a new distributor, I'm guessing its to allow the Fitech to control your timing as well. If you don't mind, what is your guy asking for the labor to install the system? If you get around to it , what are his thoughts on the (optional) command center. Ive read that the command center avoids running a return, placing a new fuel pump in the gas tank, and you continue to use your original fuel pump. Its a really cool system.

The cost is $2200 for the kit and labor. I'll have to ask him about the Command Center when I pick up the car. The reason for the electric fuel pump with these kits is that it pushes more pressure thru the line and injection system than a normal mechanical fuel pump. It also keeps the fuel moving so as to not get any vapor lock or boiling in the bowls of a carburetor. If anyone else on the board knows about this(possibly Dave, Nacho, Tom or someone), they may have an experienced explanation on this.

I just had the rear leafs re-arched and added a leaf on my 73 charger. Added 2 inches to the car which was too low to begin with. I checked with Espo and they were 310 to $400 and I had to do the work. For $400 at Allied spring they did all the work. They also adjusted the torsion bars to compensate. Over the years in most cases I found having original parts restored is usually the best way to go. Makes the tires look smaller now, may have to look into 15s, the wife will love that!
