I decided to research torsion bars and how they work . The information I came across caused me to go into daydream mode . Ya know! all those great things your going to do to improve your Charger. While at the same time ignoring the time and money aspect. Anyway..... Has anyone upgraded any part or all of their existing suspension? Thicker torsion bars? Thicker front sway bar? Added a sway bar? Front end rebuild kit? Better leaf springs? Urethane bushings? Sub frame connectors? What were your results? Suggestions ? Sent from my PC36100 using proboards

Well, on my 318 '72 Charger I have only added the torsion bars from a 440-Hemi B body car. Which are under 1 inch (like .94) or something like that. The bars on it were tiny.... could not even find a listing for them anywhere. I also added poly bushing on sway bar end links and the frame bushing. New gas shocks. 255 60 15 tires on 8 inch steel rims.
On the 440 Road Runner, I have added Firm feel 1.06 bars and love them. rides great but still handles well.New shocks up front but 30 year old shocks on back with no sway bar. I have a Hellwig rear bar to add over the winter when I can get some help. I do plan on a bigger front bar one day. I also have a set of MP bolt on subframe connectors. Also waiting on help ( and a welder!). Same 255-60-15 tires on 8 inch steel rims.
Nothing very exciting here. Just solid basic stuff that I feel has helped for my kind of driving, like getting ice cream.

I may already have the larger diameter tortion bars. Anything that improves handling =safety and better driving. experience to me. I did these few things on my last(GM) classic car that had coil springs. It was a world of difference. My charger handles as good as my last car right now. It also if ( I remember correctly) handles better than my old 1968 charger , 318 car. So anything I improve now will really make it feel better to me. Even if it is just for a fast food run. Did it make a big difference in your Charger? I've read that sub frame connectors work well. Are bolt ons really just bolt ons? You mentioned welding. Sent from my PC36100 using proboards

I have yet to install mine so I cannot say. However, they Mopar Performance ones are bolt in if you like so they can be removed if you want later.

on my 74 I put a firm feel stage 3 steering box on it, all polygraphite bushings in the front end, solid subframe and t-bar cross member mounts, i welded the seams on the K frame. I have the plates to weld on the lower control arms but I haven't gotten to welding it up yet.
On top of that I have subframe connectors and a 10 pt roll cage in there, so its pretty damn stiff now. When I put the dana 60 in it later this year I plan to install a anti roll bar in the back. (not the same as a sway bar)

Just wondering, how is a anit roll bar different from an anti sway bar? Is it like a panhard bar or track bar? Maybe something I want to consider on one of my cars. Thanks, JON

somewhat. basically its a rear sway bar on steroids. it helps regain some sort of balance to the cars weight.
When you try to get a muscle car to corner, you need large front sway bars to help. the problem is it gives a huge amount of understeer. So this makes a already nose heavy car seem worse. the anti roll bar in the back helps to correct that.

I have a 1 1/8" front stabilizer bar and 3/4" sway bar on my Charger. The front stabilizer bar was an upgrade from PST and I added the rear bar (Addco). Besides that I have poly-graphite bushings all around and Monroe Sens-tracs shocks on the rear and KYB G2 shocks on the front.
I want to go with the Firm Feel box and maybe thicker torsion bars later but I need to get the interior done first! The suspension on my car isn't too bad now but I hate the steering despite the fact I have the most expensive rebuilt box on it I could find. :-(
