I just received the factory luggage rack for my 71 SE. My car is a rather basic optioned SE (383hp auto on the column) but has the M91 luggage rack code on the data plate. I'm trying to decide if I should install it or sell it later on. I believe it's a fairly uncommon option, what do you think?

I do like the luggage rack...and a good choice in place of a spoiler....But I think it takes away from any muscle car look.... However I did really like them on the vettes.....I don't think you can go wrong mounting it, Lay it on and study it hard for a couple days before drilling holes\

My 70 Barracuda had one and during the restoration the previous owner got a second decklid and had it painted at the same time as the car. That way he could use either one depending upon the "look" or utility he wanted at the time.
When I bought it, I put it on for a while but ended up selling it separate from the car.
Godspeed, JON

A dilemma of sorts. It certainly is a unique option and one that is not seen very often. Yet, in my opinion it also takes away from the "muscular" appearance of a Charger.....
If it was me...I think I would simply store it away and include it, if the car was sold sometime in the future.

After seeing one mounted at Carlisle I think they are cool looking.

Yeah, that is a tough one . I like the rack myself and would love to see a charger with one, driving passed me on the street. It would also bother me to have one and not use it . I liked the idea of a second deck lid . Another thought would be to have a temporary mounting system . Maybe magnetic with a protective material between the magnet and the paint. Maybe just for car shows. Possibly a combination of magnets and an inconspicuous bracket or cable system. This way you can have the best of both worlds. I think its to cool to toss aside. I think your dilemma is stressing me out . LOL . Sent from my PC36100 using proboards

Thanks for the replies. Hey no worries, it will be at least another year before I can do anything with it anyway I'm still in the bodywork / welding stage. Since my garage is not heated, working on the body is on hold till Spring and she still has a ways to go yet: Unfortunately the original trunk lid that had the mounting holes was too far gone to repair. I might just put the rack on anyway to help it stand out from the crowd a little. Gunmetal grey is a nice color but not exactly hi-impact. Bob, I saw that car at Carlisle and thought it looked pretty good also. I don't usually post pic's of other peoples cars, so just let me know and I will remove it. Since it's way to cold to paint I'm focusing on mechanicals. I removed the heater box out of my Rallye today as both cars need new cores. One of the joys of owning multiple old cars I guess. At least the cars aren't going anywhere soon so there's no need to rush.

It's growing on me, just not used to seeing them on 3rd gen's. I'm not worried about the car not looking muscular. The hidden headlights make it look bad a** and being an SE, it's got all the stainless bling one would ever need. With that in mind it might look right at home!
