TTI are a real nice fit. No mods at all. I have straight plug Aluminum 452 heads which tells me stock cast heads would fit great, but angled spark plug RPM or Indy heads would probably fit even nicer!

I will be ordering a set of TTI at the end of the month.

TTI's are the way to go if you can afford them
Personally I went with the HP stock exhaust cheaper back then, less hassles and for 10 hp not worth it.
I can find 50 hp in other ways

I have headers because they came with the car. Indeterminate brand, rusty, and they make changing plugs a pain in the *ss. Had to get some of those heat-resistant 'sock' things for the plug wires too.
Maybe one day they'll rust through and I'll have to figure something else out ...

TTI's are the way to go if you can afford them Personally I went with the HP stock exhaust cheaper back then, less hassles and for 10 hp not worth it. I can find 50 hp in other ways Unfortunately I have wasted a lot of money buying parts that where less expensive or bypassing some parts only to have to do something over because of it. I probably have twice what my Charger is worth into it and would have saved at least a couple thousand by just buying the more expensive part the first time. It will probably save me money in the long run to just bite the bullet and get the TTI headers instead of dealing with burned up plug wires and boots, cooked power steering and starters etc. Not to mention it will look better without the custom dents in the Headman to clear plugs and steering gear.
Was going to get wheel well trim and door panels. Now another set of headers will eat that money and I will be refinishing the lower door panels and just getting upper panels and arm rest pads. Wheel well trim is just back on hold.
A word of warning to any single guys. If you are addicted to muscle cars, DON'T marry an accountant.

I run a used set of Hooker Comps that I had re-coated but high-tech coatings. 4 ceramic coats inside and out, and guaranteed not to peel, rust or colour. So far they look like new. I didn't have to dent the pipes because the car is converted from power steering back to manual, so I have lots of room. I still run the stock starter, but have a new mini on the shelf because I have been told the header heat will fry the starter, but I guess I have been lucky as its been 7 years and still works great. This is the fellows web site that did my headers, he will also be doing my stock HP manifolds for my 68 with the same coating, only in a stock grey colour not silver like the headers. hightechcoatings.com

TTI are on, much better fit, no issues with plug wires, clearance at the steering gear box. Cleaner line under the car eliminated some of the bends in the exhaust pipe and made adding an H pipe much easier.

My '71 Charger 440 resto project, factory heads, manual steering, PowerMaster mini starter, is nearing streetability. Installed a set of Hedman Elite 1 7/8, and while the passenger side went on fine, the drivers side was maddening. Had to ding and test fit multiple times to clear the T-bar and mini starter. One standard length header bolt (#1 cyl, inside the bend) had to be modded to allow thread-in. Since these rascals were ceramic coated, expensive (in my book), I am not all that happy with them, and seriously considering getting a TTI set, full length 1.75 or 1 7/8 primary tubes. You'd think they would do a mock-up and clearance pipes as needed for the cost of the set. My '71 318 Dart has the appropriate Hedman 1 5/8 set, and the driver side required a few pull the engine finesse adjustment sessions. I became a near expert on quick engine R/R in the process. The ceramic coating got scratched badly as well. What fun...
As a previous commenter: Spend the money the first time around, and enjoy less stress, less wasted effort/labor.
In spite of this I'm still a believer in using headers, for the additional HP.

Sounds like maybe buying uncoated headers, making them fit, then sending them out to be coated would be a good way to go.
