So if I use the screwdriver at the starter relay and start the car, do I have to turn the key to the run position? Will it be safe to drive?

Yeah, you need the key in the on position. The starter solenoid just engages (turns) the starter.

as far you ARE SURE got your car in N or P, everything will be fine Oooh, good point! Didn't think of that. If you use a remote start you are eliminating the neutral safety system. Make sure it's in park or neutral!
