Has anyone tried an aftermarket a/c unit, complete outfit, on a 318 ?

I did the under hood conversion kit from Classic Auto Air. Other than the fact the instructions were awful, it works great.

Similar experience with the kit from autoacsolutions.com - easy install despite the poor instructions. Works really well.
They also do a complete system with under-dash vents for cars that didn't have a/c from the factory. It's not cheap though.

After you get it figured out, it is the ultimate set up to swap out that behemouth old cast iron unit. And all new parts from the getgo.

This system will fit right in on a 74 318 that came with factory air?

Mine was very nearly bolt-on, although being a later 360 I had to use a secondary belt to drive the alternator. I imagine the install on a 318 would be similar.

Thanks! Now you've got me wondering if I want to rebuild my compressor or box it and go with a new one. Probably cheaper and free up some HP......... Here we go!

Depends on if you want original and/or if all the parts are there. If all the parts are still there and nothing leaks, I'd say have the original compressor refitted for R134 and go that way. If the condenser or any parts are missing or bad, do the under hood kit.
