Looking on eBay at Chargers....I see more restored 71 R/T's and Super Bees for sale than I do good solid projects of "lesser pedigree" Its seemingly easier to find a restored 71 R/T than it is to find a decent 71 318 car.

Noticed the same thing after being out of the hobby for many years. Used to be big block cars were in the minority but times have changed. I have a feeling many good 318 cars have become donors. Saw it myself, an original low mileage 71 SE parted out because it was a 318 car that was worth more in parts.

Looked at 71-74 Chargers on eBay this evening. 7 of 12 were 71 R/T's or Super Bees. An eighth car is listed as an R/T but is a highly modded race car.

That is like the charger in Hermitage Pa. The only thing that I think is Super Bee on that car is the hood.

You will see more restored R/T's because I believe it just makes more financial sense to restore an R/T than a family model 318 Charger(not to say that a 318 car is not worth restoring). I restored my 1971 R/T and every body part that I replaced was the exact same part as a 318 car- Floor boards, rocker panels, inner + outer Wheel wells, trunk lid, Trunk floor, Quarter panels, etc. So if it costs the same to restore an R/T as a 318 car why not spend a few extra $$$ up front and start off with an R/T? Fact is with the exception of the drive train, hood, brake lights, doors, reenforced boxes for the frame and a few interior items all the parts are the same. Just my thoughts. I was thinking the same thing about Superbirds. I would love to get a beat up one in my price range and restore it over the years but like you said, try and find one that is not already been restored.

Wait for the Wellborn unleashing to die down. It will go back to normal soon enough - only with a higher pricetag......
