I couldn't agree more. I think the folks that are making the most money on the popularity of Ebay are the couriers. UPS is a flat-out rip-off. At least in Canada. Their little gift of 'brokerage fees' you get in the mail a few weeks after receiving your package is a joke. Just a plain-heinie gouge. I see if the seller will do USPS, and if not, I don't buy from them Having said that, the post office also jacked their fees astronomically in the last few years to also get in on the action. At least they don't charge brokerage 'fees'. Canada Post is a government certified deal, so they at least can do their own brokerage. But the package fees are barely cheaper than a courier nowadays. I can't believe some of the charges sellers want to ship something to Canada on Ebay. We sure do get ripped off. Summit 50 states free shipping for instance. Oh to live in the Land of the Free!!!!! Or at least live close to the border would be nice. Robert...as much as Shipping fees gouge the heck out of us..I would NOT move back to the states!...I love Canada...lived in the USA for 17 years ...Canada has many advantages even if it doesn't seem so at times ...if I was to buy allot more stuff from USA I would have a US address near the border to ship to then drive down to get...I am only 1.5 hours from Buffalo....there are many services that provide an address.. And by NO MEANS am I slamming living in the USA...I just love our 4 seasons, I love the not so hot climates, etc........

One thing about the high shipping charges is it makes me more accountable with what i order. I juggle around my Rock Auto parts to find the best balance of quality and shipping and I keep a running list of everything my 3 vehicles need so I can order a volume of stuff at one time. I also use the discount on dodgecharger.com or now I get one in the email for a 5% discount. Recently they sent me a list of clearance parts for my frequently searched 74 Charger that were available from a supplier that saved me a bunch. Side note; these cars are close to going antique and even little parts are going to be hard or impossible to get from mainstream suppliers so it may be time to stock up on that stuff if possible. The 11 3/4 rotors have taken a leap lately in price and availability of quality Wagner and similar is gone from mainstream suppliers like Autozone for example. I waited 8 hours too long on Rock Auto and missed buying a set shipped for $53 and now its gonna cost me about $140. GRRRR. I also keep lists of parts that I need with part numbers from just about every supplier so that I know who has the cheapest price or best part and if they have a sale or discount I can really take advantage of it. That's also how I manage my que on Ebay. I keep parts in it I need and keep them in front of me so that at any point they go on sale or discounted I can pull the trigger. I've waited up to 2 years for some parts to get my best deal. I recently snatched a super nice parts book for 74 for $33 shipped that was originally $125 plus $25 shipping. Even felt a little bad for the seller but he made it available. I am also another one who will not use companies that only use UPS. USPS is alot cheaper and I've never had a problem even shipping to Russia and New Zealand. I did hear that USPS is going to not accept larger packages soon so that is going to stink. Eventually I bet they don't accept anything that is not the size of the priority boxes and even they have gotten smaller.

Now I am not so sure that there is any amount of packaging that can prevent shipping damage. I took my crated door to a friend this past weekend and un-crated at his place. Despite the best possible packaging, it still had shipping damage. Looks like the crate had to be dropped from 10 feet in the air, on its side, to do what happened. It is "fixable" and not really a big deal as the door already needed a good bit of work.

I'm trying to get a package tray sent up here. Yep, only costs $25 from year-one on the father's day sale, but it was going to be $129 to ship. They have a contract with UPS, the most expensive courier in existence.

They have a contract with UPS, the most expensive courier in existence. For chits and grins, I put a package tray in my YR1 cart and entered my zip code. Slightly over $35 to have one shipped to me. I live only 45-50 miles from YR1 I have bought several package trays from them over the years. I just go up there and order at the counter. If they don't have what I order in stock, they ship it to me for free. That is what happened the last time I ordered one. With that said, the final package size on the package tray is surprisingly large. On a package like that, you are getting charged "dimensional weight" rather than actual weight

Hasn't one of the knocks on Year One always been that their shipping is high?

Hasn't one of the knocks on Year One always been that their shipping is high? Yes. .....and for Canadians, YR1's insistence on using UPS makes it much worse, due to the brokerage fees.
