Just looking for ideas for this Charger. It is a 1974 Charger SE Broughman. Has the 360 small block with automatic transmission. And believe it or not, this was a barn find. Yes an actual barn find. It was sitting in the barn for 30 years until I bought it. So just looking for some ideas on what to do with it.

Well... I would think some wheels/tires would be a good starting point. As far as the rest...it really depends on what you want to do and if originality is a consideration. By the way, looks like a very nice, solid project you found.

Tom's right on. Do what you want. I found my 74 in a barn also but was not nearly as nice as yours. I initially kept it stock )F8) except for the green vinyl top, it had to go and I replaced it with a black one. After a couple years I was really hooked on the Rallye and RT chargers but no way could afford them. So, I really made the purist cringe when I started finding deals for the parts that would make it look a little like the RT and Rallye. $25 hideaways, $50 RT tailights, free chin spoiler (thanks Jer), mustang wing $100, Brougham interior to buckets $200, tough wheel (thanks Tom), fiberglass hood $200 with big arse scoop, some sort of RT stripes on the back of the trunk lid $200, rear window aluminum louver (thanks Tom), keystone classiks $50, painted rallye mirrors $65 and other things. Do what you want and enjoy it. Welcome to the site.

Well....what the heck, I will tell you what I would do if that car rolled into my driveway next week. Does not make it right or wrong...and all of it has been done by many others Would be expensive for most, but i already have all of the parts on hand, which would make it easy. I would add a factory steel power bulge hood "tuck" the bumpers and remove the rubber filler trims add 72 hideaways. remove bumper guards. add 72 Rallye tail lights add 71 style rear Gull wing spoiler add front spoiler add 15 inch Rallye wheels add rear valance with cut-outs and exhaust tips (protruding just a little further than original) and for a finishing touch...add a NOS Mopar/Dixco hood tach. Then, if I really wanted to get the wifes blood boiling..... I would order the correct style 71 reproduction rear window louvers. What I would NOT do is put a bumble bee stripe on the rear, or add R/T or Super Bee badging....... OR paint it blue and put 43 decals on the side.

We both have the same taste. I love the way a thread goes off track.

Change all the fluids. Get it safe and drivable. Clean it. Research the correct ways to clean old finishes(vinyl, plastic, paint, chrome) without damaging them.Take off the horrendous mudflaps. Swap out the wheels for some ralleys or something cheap from Craigslist or a buddy deal. Check out the side mouldings to see if they stick on or rivet on. Remove them if stick on for a better look. Replace any small detail items like trunk mat, seat covers, etc for a clean overall look .Old cars really don't need the "reality show makeover" to be fun and attract a lot of attention, so simple is good. Car looks to be in a "survivor status" right now. I would just clean it up, drive it, decide if you love it or want something else then formulate a plan to restore, modify or sell with a strong emphasis on how much time you really have and how much money you really have to spend on it. Or you can do like 90% of the people. Rip it apart because that is easy, drag it around for years in a incomplete state, buy a bunch of parts to pile in it, tear the motor apart to see what it looks like then never put it back together because it is expensive, and so on till it becomes a Craigslist "has to sell today" project. Looks like a really nice car to start with. You are going to find that it is not the most well liked Mopar because it is a 74 and a SE. But we love them here. You were very fortunate to find this car in this good of a shape and it should be fun to work on. And it's red. Lucky duck.
