Some weeks ago, we had the Stratus R/T in for some service. I didn't want to tackle the back plugs as the plenum (sp?) and half the engine has to come apart to replace them. So between that and a misfire which triggered the "Check Engine" light we brought it in. Fellow I've know for some time, works on the Chargers as well. He says to me "what do you plan on doing with the car?". Why I ask.
Because the winters have done it in he tells me. Soon I'd be replacing fuel lines, brake lines, exhaust and much more. Time to dump it is now, he explains.
She kept the car off the road for 2 winters but then life got in the way and she was driving back and forth to Rochester, then Buffalo and simply needed to drive the car. So, 10 Syracuse/New York winters took their toll. It has been an amazingly dependable vehicle and doesn't owe us a dime frankly.
Martha bought the car brand new in 2003. We drove to Wallingford, CT to pick it up on the day after Thanksgiving in 03. So this was her baby, and needless to say not something she wanted to hear.
But none the less, we talked it over and decided we were going to order a new 2016 Dart before the end of the year.
So I'm at work a couple weeks ago and a co-worker says ... "you guys want to buy another R/T, a friend is selling his and he is anal about his cars!"
2004 Stratus R/T, 68,000 miles, never driven in a Syracuse winter and always garaged. I jokingly text-ed Martha and to my surprise she says, let's go look at it.
Well we did. It is beautiful ... so we bought it.
Exact same options as our 03 but a year newer, less than half the miles (as the 03 had 141,000 on it now) and NO RUST. Only difference is color. Hers was Deep Red, this is Indy Red.
So, the Darts idea is gone and this IS our new car. We'll be saving on car payments and now I can finally start building my garage in the back yard for the 2 Charger's because clearly we need our 1 car garage now for this one.
We put the 03 on Craig's list and it sold in less than 24 hours for exactly what we were asking for it, no compromise.
Here are a couple pictures as well as Martha watching her baby go off into the sunset. Long live the R/T!!!
