A shade tree mechanic's dream (nothing electronic), that I've been looking for, for quite some time. 1972 Chevy C-10 1/2 ton shortbed, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree manual trans, with the big rear window: YESSIR: Stow a fan belt, inline filter, & a little spare fuel hose under the seat A fresh set of points in the glove box Duct & electrical tape, feeler-gauge, bailing wire, pliers, crescent and a hammer in the tool box, And you're ready for any possible breakdown, anywhere...a true electronics-hater's dream !! A California truck, residing in the woods/hills of Georgia for the last 8 years, accidentally listed on the Bakersfield Craigslist site...snagged it for $1500.oo !! (And with a "fresh" crate motor with approximately 5K on it's clock.) I even talked him into removing the bodacious homemade "camper", which is more like tall sideboards with a roof. It's coming "home" on my next Eastern trip. Yeah, buddy.....and nary a "check engine" or "service engine soon" light on it...AND it's smog check exempt in California....everything truly is coming up Jer, and boy, is he a happy camper. Yippee !!

I haven't become as savvy on 67-72 Chevy pickups as I am on 3rd Gens (and 94 to 2007 Dodge Rams), but I will be.
If I remember correctly, those "light protectors" were on a LOT of that generation's stepsides, but they were designed as part of the bumper support system (maybe to keep the bumper from "rocking down" when a load was put on the trailer ball??).
I don't even know if they were a factory item, or a dealer add-on.
What I DO know is they will be one of the first items to go...the "cool" thing to do is to remove the stand-alone/naked to the world/just waiting to be knocked off taillights completely and "french" taillights into the upper rear of the fenders, OR to go the roll-pan route and insert lights into it..
Hmmm, wonder how a set of chromed housing 72 RT/Rallye lights would look in that type of setup..
Just happened to have a set of those lying around !
:P

I changed my other mind. I came across a set of mint 72 housings with an NOS set of SE lenses (complete with chrome trim) in my "extras" room, and I think those need to be on my future 72 C-10 rear bumper/rollpan. They're smaller, cleaner and neater than the RT/Rallyes. Of course it goes without saying that I will change my mind 14 more times before I'm ready to install them !!

Not too awfully long ago, my Grandson and I restored a 1970 C-10 almost identicle to yours. We still have quite a few new reproduction parts and some assortment of good used parts that we either didnt use or pulled off the truck.
Let me know if you run into any parts that you need and cant locate and I might be able to help you out.
Probably most of them you can have for whatever it costs to ship them to you since I could use the room that they are taking up, especially the running-when-yanked inline 6 and the 4 speed that we swapped out of it. The 4 speed is the 'progressive' type, not the one with the granny 1st gear.
Bob.

Thank you for your kind offer, Sir Bob, I just probably will take you up on your offer(s).
I don't know exactly what I'm going to need just yet, but I'm sure we'll be communicating on this subject at a later date.
Meanwhile, thanks (belatedly) for joining up here, and for being a contributing member.
Have a great day and Take care, Jer.

Hey Jer, I been thinking about these parts for that C-10. I don't know what route you drive when you're headed home from your cross the country runs, but if you wanted to take the northern route, we're not far off of the interstate. You could stop by, load up with some parts, and save yourself some shipping costs. It would give me a chance to cook up a true Corn Belt breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and also give me a chance to do some serious sucking up to the owner of this great forum. (You supply the whiskey. We quit making the home brewed corn liquor years ago.) And of course, you'd have to sleep in the barn with my daughter. Just kidding of course. The sheep sleep in the barn. But you know, whatever!

Yeah, what's the update on this machine anyway? If you don't get moving on it pretty soon, I think we're going to have to ship that bad boy out here to Michigan for my son or daughter to enjoy.
