Has anybody bought and used any of the AMD reproduction hood hinges? How do they fit and work? As with all reproductions, I am wary of buying them.
On eBay, I see a seller selling "restored" hood hinges. How does one rebuild a hood hinge? The 71-72 hinges have "teeth" that wear. Is that addressed during a "rebuild"
How does one inspect/test a used hinge other than looking for wear on the teeth?

I have purchased 4 used hinges ... 73 ones I made sure. after going through the bother to blast and paint I have found one good passenger and an O-K one for the driver. But if they are 40 years old, you can bet they are worn. I am going to see if SMS can rebuild my driver one. No more used ones, they are all junk!

Bob, so you basically go thru all the work...put them on the car and hope for the best? Can they be better checked for wear if the spring is removed? That would be my hunch. In the past, when I would buy them from JY's...I would just open and close the hood a couple times. If they opened and closed smoothly, without binding, I considered them "good" But when I went to sell them, people sometimes would complain about wear on the teeth.

I though the "Teethed" kind were 73/74, not 71/72! Aren't 71/72 slider kind ?
My 74s got teeth and were already rebuilt.
rivets needs to be replaced too, they wear getting full play all around assembly!

Did a little Google searching about AMD hood hinge quality. Reviews seem to range from fair to terrible. Sounds like having them rebuilt is the way to go.
IF one did decide to order reproductions......it would be advised to install/test fit them unpainted. Once they get painted, vendors won't take them back.
