I know this is the wrong place for this question, but I'm putting it here anyway--at least temporarily because...because I can!
Here's my question that I need an answer for ASAP: Same year, same trannys (and other than oil pan, pickup tube, and motor mounts) will a car 318 install (and perform) in a pickup truck that currently has a worn-out 318 in it ??
I know it's cool going the other way, because I've done it w/ a 440 from a pickup into a car.
Are there any huge problems or hurdles in a swap from a car to a truck?
Both applications are automatics, both 904, so the actual mate-up itself isn't an issue....right?
Or is there some difference between 318 motors originally in cars vs originally in pickup trucks, ( early 70's vintage ) ?
Standing by for a trainload of helpful feedback/input/answers/experiences !!!
Thanks all, Jer

I recently sold a 360 out of a 77 Dodge van to a kid that is installing it in his 75 pickup, replacing a 6 cylinder. He says its not the first upgrade he has done like that, and it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I wouldn't think there would be any problems, but I dont know for sure. I will bend his ear a little bit about what you are wanting to do the next time I go to town.
Just off the top of my head I would think that it would be easier doing it your way than putting a V8 in a pickup that only has a 6 in it now. I am fairly certain that a 360 from a van wouldnt be much different than a 360 from a car, but I dont even know that for sure.
Sorry I cant be more help to you right now, Jer, but like I said I will see what I can dig up.

I bought a '78 150 4x4 plow truck w/o an engine & trans back in the 90's. Bought a rusted out '77 Diplomat (I think) installed the 318 from it into the truck. I remember changing out the oil pan and also the exhaust manifolds because I think they dumped out in a different location. Anything I couldn't use from the car I picked up at bone yard but I don't remember needing much. Linkages and minor stuff. Pulled the 4x4 trans from a '79 truck I had and installed it in the '78. Bought a core trans from the bone yard and took it in for the core on a rebuild for the '79 which I was planning on keeping for a while.

THANKS for all the responses, I learned what I needed to know from them. I will now move this to its appropriate and permanent category. Again, many thanks. Jer.
