Where is the best place find replacement vinyl tops and clips. Not sure how much a good one should cost. Which looks best on a gold car, the tan color I have or black?

Hmm, they both look really good with that gold. What is factory with the car? That is the way I would lean.

If I got fender tag right I think original was white. Personally I don’t like white top on gold but I do like the tan that’s on it. Not sure about changing to black.

I would go with black IMO. Legendary or Year One carries them and the clips or see if you can find someone local that has done great work. I had a guy in our car club do mine. He charged me $200 and I ordered from Legendary the vinyl top for $200. He does this for a living, interiors and tops and convertibles.

Personally, I might lean toward black. But the lighter color looks nice, and is different. You see a lot of "black" at car shows, especially interiors. It's nice to see a color for a change.

What color is the interior, it usually matches that.

Everything on the car was gold from factory, the dash, carpet, center console and seats. The vinyl top looks like someone spilled something on it. It didn’t discolor it but kind of disfigured it a little, its just on sides close to seam. It’s not real bad and other wise its in great shape. The car has what appears to be original headliner which has been perfect till the other day. I noticed a small hole appeared over passenger window about the size of a quarter for no reason at the edge of a seam. At first I thought a mouse might have done it but now i think it just gave way from old age. If i decide to freshen up paint job should that come first before replacing top. Dosen’t replacing vinyl top require removing headliner to get to trim clip studs? Cant afford to paint right now but could replace top, not sure if i should wait on paint first. THOUGHTS? The tan top has just enough contrast to set it off against gold paint.

My preference then would be black.

I kinda like the gold, because as was said it looks different but then again my Y8 Gold SE with ember/gold interior came with a black top and I liked the black. My car is now B5 and have a black top on it. I bought my top from straight from Legendary many years ago and it looks great. These days if I want anything from Legendary I buy from Dante's.

gip63 You dont need to remove headliner for trim clips. The plastic clips that secure the trim around the vinyl roof edge, snap on to studs that are welded to the sheet metal. If any studs are broken off or missing, they can be replaced by special screws which are easy to use if a stud welder isnt available. There is a metal clip with spring wire for the trim at the curved trim behind the opera window, that needs a nut on the inside. You may be able to release a small area of headliner that covers the inside of the rear pillar. The SE medallion also does require access from the inside to fasten once the vinyl top is in place.
