We have talking about this many times having discusions about if Butyl must be used or not. As I have told I found my car got Butyl and not a light layer but full filled all around and not just the ribbon sealer and I was the first who removed glases on my car. well, here is what it was and how must be www.hotrod.com/articles/mopp-0402-how-to-install-and-replace-bond-in-glass/I hope will be helpfull

Though original, using Butyl ribbon is still an inferior and semi-obsolete method.

yes maybe but it was like factory did... then its at each own if go for another route, like urethane . Myself I'd go with Urethane once again ( like the last time... I used the ribbon the first time ) BUT in the ribbon place, not as a filler... still will be using Butyl as sealer/filler around the gap

I use the Butyl tape to keep the glass at the correct height so the wind shield mouldings fit correctly. ...and I also use a tube of urethane all the way around the sides to make sure there will be no leaks I have never had any problems

As far to clear the correct therms.
If I'm right Ribbon is not butyl, butyl is the sealer/filler. To be used after the ribbon and glass is installed.

No, they have called it Butyl tape for years. I buy it at my local Napa and it even says Butyl tape on the box
