I stumbled upon a 72 Charger at a local yard and it had a fresh air vent set-up in it. Looks like two pulls just under the dash and centered with side vents in the footwells to bring in fresh air while you're cruising down the road. I assume this was an option since I haven't seen them all that often. If anyone could provide additional information on the system, what years/model it could have been on, etc. it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Called the Strato-vent option [H41 - Ventilation - Forced upper air (N.A. w/AC)], it was available on all four (71-74) model year Chargers. In '71 it added $18.20 to the cost of a new Charger. For whatever reason, it was not a popular option and they are hard to find these days. The parts are pricey when you do come across them. The temp/vent control to the left of the steering wheel is unique to these cars and has "Strato" & "Vent" in script on it which makes ID'ing them easy. The heater box is also unique having the opening for the duct up to the top of the dash. The duct & insert with the single set of center vents is also unique to this setup. Finally, the other unique part which is the most difficult to find is the vacuum controlled valve that goes in the hot water line running to the heater box and is located in the engine compartment. Working survivors are nearly non-existant because these valves that a bad habit of corroding and requiring replacement early on. There were some aftermarket replacements floating around for a while years ago but I haven't see one for sale anywhere in quite some time. There are also two cables and a few other parts unique to the Strato-vent setup required to assemble a complete working system.

If I found a strato vent set up at a local JY....I would buy every single piece of it. Dash vent piece is unique
Every nut bolt,screw.....even if you can't, somebody can use it.

Awesome info! Thanks everybody. I really should just buy this whole day car and part it. Can't be retitled since it is in the yard so might as well pull some cool stuff out and sell the rest
