So now that I got my AC up and running I need to upgrade the alternator. I see 60 or 65 amp remans available locally. Would that do the job? I have a 10 ga wire w/fusible link running to the start relay stud to help temporaraly until a ampmeter bypass can be done. Would I need to upgrade the fusible link? One other note: all wire under the hood was new as of 2013 and wiring under the dash has been inspected and in good shape. I also run a voltmeter under the dash along with a oil and temp gauge.

No need to bypass ammeter. 78 amps stock replacement alt from mid 80s Mopar is quite enough if you wanna go on the cheap ( $40-60 from parts shops ). These are a bit wider case but works. Just trim a bit the rear space or the alt ears itself. Longer belt will help too ( I think 1" or 1.5" is quite enought ) to spread up a bit the alt to away from the block if you wanna more, a 100 amps alt from Tuff Stuff will be even better, but they are on $200 rate. No need for more amps. This are same size of the correct year ones. Can't say if they get dual field round backs, like your car should get AND STILL with this alts, ammeter will be safe... in fact EVEN MORE than with stock alts. I know whay I say this. stock system and wiring/alt upgrade this is what I'm running on my driver car ( well, it was untill 2013 LOL ), also daily used A/C and several relays upgrades. My ammete barelly moves and never got a dimmed light.
