1974 Charger. Years ago I had a problem where my brake lights quit working. Except that every time I hit the brakes the dome light came on. After tracing the wiring I found the only place where they came together was at the fuse box. Disconnect the battery, pulled the fuse box off the firewall and found that the wire for the brake lights had broke off at the connector and dropped down, fusing it self to the dome light circuit. Soldered on a new connector, cleaned all the contacts on the fuse box including the fuse clips and reassembled. Brake lights worked fine and noticed that the light were brighter than before the issue. So as a side note dirty contacts at the fuse box can also lead to dim lights.

That can overheat the fuse holders able to melt the fuse box cavity while the dome light also dims out while pressing brakes.
Don't ask how I know that, LOL

I need to look into my dome light not working also.
