For whatever reason, my car doesn't have any of the Charger badging on the outside. It has the DODGE letters on headlight cover, has the Pentastar on the lower passenger fender, and has the SE wreaths on each sail panel.
I just received a new Charger/Dodge Division emblem for the trunk which I will put on the car today. I also have the correct SE wreath for the trunk and will add that after experimenting with different double-sided tapes.
As for the fenders, it seems the original holes have been filled in where the Charger script and arrow are supposed to go. Curiously though, there is a set of holes on the driver fender located about 6 or 7 inches below where the Charger script is supposed to be located. These particular holes are spaced roughly 1 5/16" apart. Has anyone ever seen an emblem in this location??
After poking around on several sites selling emblems, I did find a 383 4 barrel emblem with a red background that they claim is used on the 66-71 Chargers. Personally, I've never seen this particular emblem on a 71. But then, I also don't recall ever seeing anything in the location I'm describing here.
The other thing I find odd is that the fender holes for the Charger script and arrow have all been filled in, and yet they left these two lower mystery holes.
Has anyone here ever seen anything in this location?

as far I know 72 didn't get the holes there but stick on ?. If 440magnum engine they got a small 440magnum emblem just right below ( can't recall any other displacement on this emblem size )... on any case, never got the arrow, not SEs at least. Hardtops and coupes got Charger and arrow on sail panel. The Charger Dodge division one piece emblem is a 71 thing. Since 72 they were Charger and Dodge in separated pieces sail panels got the wreaths and also the Special Edition words Dodge on headlight Door is 71 stuff... 72s with hideways ( Topper and SE ) got it on hood in any case there are two stickied threads talkinga bou that on this board section you are right, the 383 4 barrel is not a 3rd gen stuff.

Yes, I painfully read through all the 72 stuff in the sticky threads. Does not apply.

71 used a stick on for the fender badges. Most were "Charger" followed by the arrow. I say most because my car has the arrow below the Charger. My badges have paint over spray on them, from a repaint, so it appears they were install that way at the factory. So I have a mystery also. Idk, maybe some workers goofing around. As far as your mystery holes, don't know. My car was pretty original and there aren't any holes below the body line except for the sill trim on the rockers. As they say, these cars are 45+ years old so a lot can happen in that time.

If this was the passenger fender, I'd be thinking Pentastar.

71 used a stick on for the fender badges. Most were "Charger" followed by the arrow. Okay... awesome! That's actually useful information. Thanks dude!
I had assumed 71 used pins based on what I'm finding for sale on the internet. The emblems on sites that say 1971 also say "mounting hardware included" which to me is the little round pin keepers that hold it in place.
My parents' 71 "topper" package had the arrow following the script as well on the fenders. There's a cool video from 1971 showing a 71 SE on a road test... and it has the arrow on the fender, too. This is how I plan to set mine up.
So far, I haven't noticed any fender script or arrow emblems with stick'm on the back. I guess the only stick'm I've seen is for the trunk lid.
Does anyone have a "383 four barrel" emblem on hand... and can tell me how far apart the pins are on them? I can't think of anything else that might go in the mystery holes.

why the hell I thought you were talking about 72 SE and not 71... Yeah I kinda wondered the same thing.
Here's the video mentioned earlier. I would assume that many of you have seen this... but just in case not... here it is. As the guy in the video says... It's a happening!! The audio isn't really heard till 00:25.
One of the things I like in the video is the mention of the rare headlight washer option and actually get to see it operate! I see a cruise control unit under the hood as well. It does make me wonder... if you have a FULLY loaded car... how much more does it weigh compared to an average car? By the time you add up all the items... bigger engine, power window motors, cruise components, rear defog fan, cassette, and every other little item you can think of... we're talking possibly a few hundred pounds I bet.
My car looks pretty much like this one. Hard to tell since the film has faded... but it looks like it might be B5.

Seen it many time, but I'll always watch it again! It's GREAT this this footage exists, to see one of these cars in motion being tested new back in the day...priceless.
As to weight...I bet you could add a thousand pounds from bare bones small block or slant 6 to a loaded big block. The big block engine, the 727 trans, the bigger axle, bigger wheels and tires, bigger iron brake drums. Then accessories...a/c with the CAST IRON RV-2 compressor, brackets, evaporator, condenser, lines, etc...that's got to be a 150 pounds by itself. Power windows, power locks (you'd be surprised what those solenoids weigh), power or 6-way seat, sunroof. All heavy stuff.
