People (edit: tried to forget) about those late 70's cars..... At least as far as this one is concerned. * * [/quote]

YES PLEASE.
He keeps saying "inexpensive." I wonder for how long?

What was the deal with the shift to the "Magnum" name? This sure looks like a facelifted 4th gen Charger to me.

I'll have to watch that 30+ minute one on the Daytona later.
As it would have taken several years to design this update, I'm goign to guess they started almost immediately after the launch of the '75, no later than '76. My "guess" is they always wanted to do something along those lines, but the very financially challenged company couldn't do both the Cordoba and the Charger at the same time. Or, perhaps more likely, the sales failure of the new SE (approx. 79k '74 Chargers, and 28k '75 SEs) prompted a quick redo. By '78, the Charger name had lost it's luster. With a new look for that car, I'm sure marketing wanted a new name, too.

It could be, but it the round light styling looks more complicated/expensive to me than the Magnum's front end.

Do you mean expensive as in a premium, up-market look? I would agree with that. I like them. It's just a different, modern direction Vs. the neo-classical styling of the Cordoba and SE.
Or expensive as in expensive to build? I'd agree with that too. It certainly is more money to build with the clear doors, motor, relay, wiring, rods, labor to assemble and adjust, etc. And it adds weight. And it adds to warranty cost.

The fiberglass front end of the Charger looks like it would be more expensive to manufacture. I don't know if that can be automated or not. All of the Magnum's stuff looks like it can be stamped or injection molded.

I haven't seen a factory stripe like the one on the red car @16 before. Hard to tell what the rims are, but they don't look familiar. A rallye with a dark center? The center cap sticks out quite a way.

Looks like Magnum 500 wheels. The think chrome spoke sort of disappears at speed. And they do use a center cap that sticks out quite a bit. An AMC version is pictured below...same wheel, different label on the center cap.Ford used the Magnum 500 too.

I didn't used to like that rim so much, but it's been growing on me lately. I'd rather have it on a 5th or 6th gen Coronet though.
