I did not go that far with it... yet. I just snugged it up just a scosch more... which has helped a LITTLE. But as I mentioned, I do not want to make it any tighter.
Tomorrow I drive to Houston to get my yearly work physical. When I get home, I will take the belt off and give her as spin. I'm pretty sure it should make one or two revolutions and then come to a smooth stop... but I will double check to make sure. Damn thing cost me 135 smacks... it better still be good!
Ahhh… the joys of owning a vintage car!

I don't know Charlie, just guessing. But a slipping belt generates a lot of heat, and can destroy a belt pretty quick. If they have been slipping, and now you can't tighten them enough (within reason) to prevent the noise, I suggesting that the belt(s) being glazed is a possibility. I will note: I have the original 1977 fan and P/S belt belt on my Chrysler. It's way past usable, so I took it off and measured it (I have a Dayco belt gauge), and went to Rock to order a replacement. The listed belts are all over the place on length, and NOT ONE measures the same as the original. So a new parts store belt may not always be the size the manufacturer intended. Ahhh… the joys of owning a vintage car! Aren't modern serpentine belts amazing? Crazy how spoiled we have gotten compared to years ago.
