Hmmm...that may be coming from the joint where the axle tube us press-fit into the cast center section, or from the plug weld joining the tube and cast center section. If so, you may not be able to do much with those leaks other than to clean them up.

It sounds like the thing to do for now is to replace the oil in the diff and plan on an 8 3/4 later.
How do you replace diff oil?

Isn't there a vent over there someplace?

I understand the piston pin offset concept, but that was made to already get more power, so I don't get why reverse them will give even MORE. Will analyze it better later

The fill hole is on top of the metal block at the end of the rubber brake line? How do you drain the existing oil? What if it's turned to gunk inside the differential? What is this rubber line on the other side of the diff?

no, thats a ventilation system with a cap and also a threated to be used to hold the brake fluid dist block in place. The pic I posted got missed the cap. The next pic is how it looks with the cap installed The only way to drain the oil is removing the rear cover. The filler provision is on rear cover ( here a chromed one which shows clear the provision ) dunno what is that rubber you talk

I think this is the only rear brake hose (goes to the block on top of the axle. Not sure why there isn't a rubber hose attached to that block. The new one I have is one piece with the block). The two metal brake lines plug into the same block.

As you described on our cars the block is part of the body to axle hose assembly. Then attachs both lines to each side. Something like this The pic I robbed it got cut the hose. It was posted just to show the vent screw itself and maybe a reason for a leak being loosen on your car. The vent screw comes and sells separatelly. Is not hard to find the cap is missing on them, dunno how or why
