I'm not sure. I have it on the calendar. But that's getting close to Frankenmuth, and I've got to start cleaning up the car, car hauler, and motorhome. As you say, only so many free days available. Car Hauler?! Drive that puppy Well, I can't drive them both. This saves my brother a road trip back and forth from the campground to my house, and again after the show. We did that one year, but bringing it on the trailer is a lot more convenient.

Well I drained the coolant, removed the upper hose and found the fail safe thermostat locked open! The car was only driven 4 miles to the exhaust shop, 4 miles home the next and repeated a few days later and never got above 160*. Obviously a bad thermostat. Removed it, flushed out the system with water until clear, installed the 7yr old thermostat I took out, filled with new coolant and she now is running at 180* will idling. Looks like I won't get a chance to test run it until next weekend cause it's going back to the exhaust shop in the morning. Man I sure wish I would have waited and ordered a tti system.

I pronounce it fixed! Ran about 40 miles round trip to the Hines Park Cruise, which was canceled (park closed) probably due to flooding. Hot, humid day and the temp never got above 185* with the AC on. Well this problem is fixed but another has been pestering me. Heater box is dripping condensation badly on humid days and will soak a towel folded on the floor. Trying to catch it in a pan. Drain is open. I think the seals are wasted. This one I don't think I'm gonna tackle.

Great news Jeff! Yes, it was another hot and humid weekend. Sounds like you have that issue beat. I had not heard that Hines was cancelled due to park closure. Had thought about attending that one, but our plans changed. I've never tried pulling and reinstalling the HVAC box on a car with the dash in place. So I really can't say how hard it is. To state the obvious, with the dash out, it isn't hard at all! There are only a couple of fasteners it hangs from if I recall correctly. A couple of cables, 2 heater hoses, two a/c lines. The drain, and I think that's about it? Not a peach of a job, but one I think I'd rather do myself than have done, if you know what I mean. The case itself is easy to work on once you have it on the bench. Like anything else, take lots of reference photos, and take your time. A good winter project I would think. We have the best source for gaskets in the country right here in town....Detroit Muscle Technologies. Jim's a great guy, and will take good care of you. Tell him DynoDave from Moparts that little old 3rd gen. Charger forum sent ya! DMT LINK

It is posible to remove the HVAC box with dash in place, just need to remove the glovebox liner for clearence. But you will loose the refrigerant gas
But I think is also posible to remove the front half of the box to replace the sealant. Both halfs are hold together by spring clips all around, maybe some screw too. Tricky but doable. Just need to take care of the weight of the firewall half which contains evaporator, radiator and blower. Something to hold the weight underneath could help, because box is fiberglass and studs provisions could get broken. The front half gets a bracket to hold the weight attached to the cowl panel area at firewall to help on the full box weight amd removing the front half will loose this support.

Jeff,, go to the forum(Rebuilding the a/c heater box) from when I did my box last winter. I to thought it would be a PIA to get out. It was a piece of cake. Didn't have to remove the dash at all. 3 bolts on the engine bay side and the 1 braket behind the glove box. Got the whole kit from DMT here in Warren. I actually picked it up at their building. The parts from the kit fit perfectly for the old stuff. Took the A/C evaporator and heater core to 4 Seasons and only the heater core needed to be recored and the evaporator was perfect.

I thought it would be pretty easy, but having not actually done it, I didn't want to promise that it would be.

Well easy for someone is a real pain, literally, for me with long lasting effects. With all the things I had to deal with on this car this year has me wondering how long I can continue to do this. And finding someone to do the work for me is another subject. I haven't mentioned the issue with the exhaust shop.
I got under the dash to take a look. Pulled out the screws on the bottom hoping to be able to pry it open and shove some gasket or sealer up there to possibly slow it down. Found a crack in the case. Case won't open up so tried some sealer on the outside but it was still dripping. Gonna wait until it dries and this weekend I'll try to put some Flexseal on it as that's supposed to work under wet conditions. Don't expect it to work just hope to slow it down and hopefully more will exit the drain.
I may be pushing my luck but I'm scheduled to have my leaf springs replaced next week as they are sagging badly. Spring shop that has been around for decades assures me it is a one day job if I go with all new parts. Really hoping it'll improve the ride. Drives side has a reverse curve to it and passenger side it flat. This is another job that I could do myself as I have torches, impacts, everything needed to do the job except a healthy back, long lasting strength and a pair of hands that aren't plagued with arthritis. Sorry for the sad sack story.

Leaf springs is a 1 day job for both sides. Had mine done in a few hours at the shop. The youngsters there did a great job and it definitely improved the drive. I'm with you about getting into the tight places anymore or getting underneath the cars. When I do those things, I lay there for an extra 1/2 hour to think about how am I gonna get back up . Fortunately for me I don't have any back issues....yet. The Flex seal should temporarily fix your dripping issue on the box. If and when you decide to do the a/c heater box rebuild, and you need a helping hand, give me call and I can drive down and help ya or you can schedule a weekend day that no one is working and getter done. Talk to ya in a few days.
