Hi Folks,
I have a 72 Charger Hardtop with no headliner. The car has 4 roof bows but I see that there are both 4 and 6 bow options available for this car. Does anyone know what is correct?

It's my understanding that there is no "correct". I have read (I'll have to dig up where) that the number of bows were changed somewhere in the midst of 72, and therefore some are 4 bow and some are 6 bow. Just order the headliner with the number of bows you have (4)...If I'm not mistaken, all of the headliner vendors actually "ask" you if your 72 is 4 bow or 6 bow. But then.....I could be wrong. ~Jer~

Quote from Year One Catalog, page 67:
"Note: Between 1971 and 1972 the number of headliner support bows changed on many models, making it difficult to determine which headliner to order without knowing the number of support bows. We recommend that you check this before ordering to ensure you'll receive the correct headliner."

Wow, I didn't know that. Good info Jer. Thanks!
Now I wonder if that repro headliner I got for the Charger MANY years ago is the correct one! #Thinking#
Probably doesn't matter, as mice have probably chewed through it (in the box), just like they did the original in the car.

Do like I did, DD...I put all my parts, and mousetraps, D-Con and Mothballs in the closet, and always leave the light on and the closet doors open... Huh?....My clothes?...I threw all of them away and joined a Semi-Nudist Colony....here's my fishing partner:Hey Bob and Tom...did I mention that she travels with me on all of my Cross-Country trips? ;D I think that's worth at least 4 bows, eh Tdaver?

I think 6 bows where changed to 4 bows sometime in the mids 71, not 72... Don't remember have seen a 72 6 bows.

I don't have a pic, but they are refering to the metal ribs that hold the headliner to the roof. They are on the inside of the headliner. They run from left to right down the length of the roof.

The good Dr. has it. I highlighted the bows in this picture. They may appear as pleats or seams, but on the back side, they are pockets of cloth that the bows (thin steel bars, arched to the shape of the roof) slip inside of. When the ends of the bows are located in their pockets in the steel roof substructure, they are what hold the headliner up and give it it's arched/domed shape.
