Hi rocky61201!
Yes! This is the place where the canister belongs to. In general I would say that this item makes sense. Otherwise Chrysler could have done without it but on the other hand I'm not able to say how far in detail this item is really mandatory.

evaporator is not required , it was done to meet stiffer emissions for 1971.......you can delete it....unless your state requires original emissions on the car?.
then of course you can fake the hook up to make it look like its functional like punching out catalytic converters etc.....
From a performance standpoint I would delete it..........from an original point of view I left mine factory

Thanks for the input guys. Don't think I'm gonna bother trying to find one, got enough stuff to spend my money on. All I can think of right now is hooking up some fuel lines to the four vent holes on the tank about a foot or so in length and try to tie them off somewhere in the verticle position to avoid fuel spill.

you may consider running them a little longer rocky and perhaps routing them up around the filler tube area, in a manner that debris won't get in them. one vent should suffice and plug the rest. just an idea to throw around. then about the only time you would ever have to worry about fuel escaping them is if the car is inverted, and I hope I hope I hope that NEVER happens!!!!!
my old 71 had the "vapor canister", looked like a coffee can, was supposed to be filled with charcoal and was in the front by the headlight/battery area if I do remember correctly(but could be wrong). either way, i always called it a coffee can.....lol. texas requires all the emissions equipment originally on the car from factory to be there as part of the safety inspection, but alot of times you can get them to look the other way, especially if all the lights and stuff work right. there are plenty of ways to "rig" things up so they look functional, but are not as said by steve, and if you can get away with it and don't want to go factory, I would also say delete it. best of luck.

I think I have a rot-free spare around if anyone needs one. PM me for price, etc.
