My car came with buckets, buddy seat and column shift and I have the parts to switch to center console - slapstick setup. I have always thought I wanted this setup now time to do it I am having second thoughts (more overwelmed with getting things done so I can get my car back).
The car is nothing special but is 71 SE original engine and trans and I planned on keeping the original Column, buddy seat and brackets.
Is there a template to print and layout on floor to weld brackets or am I going to have to dig the parts car out of snow to make my own template. What size whole saw needed? Any other tips?

When I converted my Duster from column to floor shift, I used the shifter and console as the templates.
There is a rod that goes from the shifter through the floor. The outline for this is already in your sheetmetal/tunnel. There is a dimple for the center, which is where the rod goes. The other 3 dimples (if I recall correctly) around the perimeter are for the retaining screws on the boot. With this rod in place and centered, and the linkage attached, you can locate the shifter. Once it is attached, you can locate the console over it, and thus the brackets to the floor.

DynoDave, you are so right ! I just did the same conversion and it all lined up perfectly ! My car is getting AC installed right now and when that's done I'm putting the sound deadening and carpet back in. Can't wait to see the new console in it !

Good to hear guys. Lets some some picks if they are done, or when they are done. My '74 isn't anywhere close to done but the Slap Stick and center console are in for now. They will come back out soon for interior installation. Here are a couple snap shots I did take. Notice the brackets are just tacked in the second photo. They are firmly in place now.
