Were all bumper fillers on '73 and '74 Chargers grey in color and faded to a neutral tan color or was tan also a factory color?

The filler strips were grey in colour, the sun and the elements faded/bleached them. These strips are in high demand, hopefully they are reproduced soon.

There were two versions of fillers. The most common was moulded in argent/grey and was fairly flexible - same as was installed at the factory. The second was a more rigid version moulded in natural (an off-white/yellowish color) and required painting. These had a better shelf life because they wouldn't get twisted and bent (these things had a memory) like the softer argent versions. I assume they were a service part only...
I used to have a couple complete NOS sets of these (both versions) when I had '73 Chargers. Sadly, I sold them when I sold the cars.

OK, just as a point of interest here. I worked at a Dodge dealership (Sam Dell Dodge) in between regular jobs 1977 - 1979. I also had as some of you know a 73 SE that I purchased new. I replaced numerous body parts, several because of accidents and most because of rust before and after I worked at the dealership (in the parts dept I might add.) The bumpers were off and at one point I replaced all those rubber pieces, front and back as well as grilles and tail lamps. (I wish I had all that stuff now that I replaced because I could, not because it was broken). My point is, the replacement pieces were exactly as the originals in texture and color. Until they became NS1, they were always the same. Now, I am not saying you're wrong. But having said this - did they have different suppliers for different parts of the country and even different country's ?? ... can't speak on that, maybe. All I know is the depot we got our parts from which was New Jersey, all had the same stuff.

All I know is the depot we got our parts from which was New Jersey, all had the same stuff. Understood... I had more of the original style pieces myself. All I'm pointing out is there are different versions out there... At some point, a material change was made to the fillers. I've been designing automotive components for 25 years and I've made hundreds of changes to parts that were material only. Some changed the part number, but most did not because the new material did not affect fit or function. A supplier can not change material without approval from the customer (Chrysler in this case) otherwise the part will be rejected. I would question this too if I didn't have them in my hands to see. In this case, I did. Maybe Kevin B (WS23U1A) can back me up on this since I sold the car and parts to him... It was a long time ago, though.

Oh no, as mentioned ... I don't question you at all. I've seen Ma Mopar do weirder things. We just need to find SOMEBODY that is willing to do these now in any color as everyone with a 73 or 4 I know needs them. If I can't find any by the time I'm ready to put it back together, I may do what many have and that is eliminate them. Of all the junk that IS out there, I can't believe these haven't been repoped!

I noticed this on another site>>>>>>>>>> Wile E Coyote New Member Offline Posts: 5 Petition signatures needed for 73-74 Bumper Filler Reveal Moldings « on: December 22, 2009, 10:38:05 AM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In an effort to contact a manufacturer about reproducing the 1973-74 Charger bumper-filler reveal moldings and headlight surround moldings, I’ve started a petition for those of us 73-74 Charger owners who want these bumper-filler reveal moldings reproduced. Please contact all 73-74 Charger owners you know to sign this petition. I’ve set a goal of 500 signatures. While we are achieving that goal, I’ll contact some major manufacturers of reproduction parts and tell them our story, let them know about the petition, and see if we can’t get these made. Here’s the link for the petition: www.petitionspot.com/petitions/7374bumperfiller/After the preloaded petition statement “I support this petition” please type in “Reveal moldings”. This is a public petition so I can’t prohibit look-see’ers from signing it, but I can delete their signatures. If the signature has “reveal moldings” in the statement, I’ll consider it valid as proof they’ve read this post or have been instructed by a reader of this post. This is very important to add “reveal moldings” so that this petition can remain as true as possible. Let’s hope this helps!

I am fairly certain that the real issue with getting those parts reproduced is a lack of perfect originals to reverse engineer.
From what I understand, that is what stopped BEA/PG Classic from reproducing them a few years ago.
I would tend to believe that most of the few surviving NOS examples are less than perfect.
