ACE Hardware had there "by 10am" sale to day. They had the 6 piece metric and 6 piece SAE ratchet wrenches on sale for $9.99 a set. Yepper, went through the line twice. Now they are on the wall nice and shiny. Lifetime warranty to boot. I can finally sleep tonight.

good deal. Ratcheting wrenches come in handy. I have them all the way up to 24mm. I remember when the modern versions first showed up on tool trucks....they were pretty expensive back then. Wife started shopping Thursday evening at 8 PM.... She was up and back at it before I even got out of bed this morning. She is really into Christmas....and always goes way overboard. For example, I believe she spend a couple hundred bucks on my sons new girlfriend...whom I don't think she has even met. She made me look at a bunch of "great deals" that she got this afternoon.

Ratcheting wrenches are a modern marvel - won't replace sockets - but with an open end on the other end.......the common combination wrench seems obsolete. Heck of a deal you got there Bob!!!

Hey Tom, if she spends that much on someone she does not know you must be in for a big surprise.

Hey Tom, if she spends that much on someone she does not know you must be in for a big surprise. I forgot/was wrong. My wife did meet Greg's GF a couple weeks ago. They were both sick and met at the urgent healthcare place down the road. Big surprise? Maybe.....but that's not necessarily a good thing. My tastes are fairly limited, but quite well defined. I like getting tools, Charger stuff, and Steeler stuff. Anything else is pretty much useless to me.

Back to the ratcheting wrenches....I pretty much just use them when and where I really need them. For the most part, they are not built for daily use type abuse. To the best of my knowledge, the ones I have (Gearwrench) don't have lifetime warranty....and the mechanisms can be kind of fragile.

I have them and use them in more roomy areas. They are craftman with a slight angle. The metal surrounding the center is a bit excessive. Still very handy when the situation arises .

Heck, in roomy areas...about all I use is my IR 3/8 impact gun. Light weight...and plenty of power. Reassembly....I use a worn out air ratchet to run bolts down, then tighten to feel with a long handle 3/8 ratchet. Other than head bolts and lug nuts, I almost never use a torque wrench. I did get my gear wrenches out a few weeks ago when taking the front valance off one of my 71 parts cars. In that case, it was the best tool for the job. Some of those 7/16 headed bolts are not real easy to get to. Not with the 3/8 impact anyway.

Just for reference, Gearwrench wrenches are guaranteed if you can find someone who will do it. My Cornwell dealer warranties mine. He couldn't do anything about the one I left on the bumper bolt of a Ford truck. I'm sure its still there though ,jammed up against the frame.
