I talked to an upholstery guy today and asked about replaceing top and headliner. He said $700 to do top and $600 for headliner, material and labor. He seems to know his stuff and i think he would do a good job but is that too high or about right?

I paid around 300 for a liner install and a bit more for the vinyl roof. So seems a bit high but again you get what you pay for. Did you check with anyone who had their car done by this place?

I have to admit the (fail safe) black looks the best. You cant go wrong with black and gold. The tan looks nice as well but contrast between body paint and top looks best to me. Mine came with a white top and ive thought about changing the color to black. Its in great shape and the white does not look bad at all. So im likely sticking with white.

That's insanely high. The headliner itself should cost under $100 and installation should be about the same. Ask if he wants you to remove the interior prior to headliner install. It might save you a few bucks.
I haven't had a vinyl top done in a few years, but I think $3-400 should be about right.

Cost - $400, plus steak dinner for the vinyl top and $400 for the head liner.

I think upholsterers quotes can vary. Recently I was talking to a mechanic that had work done to his daughters late 80s mustang upholstery. His first quote was $2000 plus. The guy that he used chargesd $800 for the same work. He said the work was done beautifully. Definately shop around.. I now have the upholsterers card for the future.

Thanks for all the input. The installer did say the top would cost about $100 and the rest is labor i guess. I’m going to check a few other places before anything is done. In this picture you can see what is wrong with my top. If i could even out the color i might could leave it on. I cant imagine someone being so careless as to ruin the vinyl this way. I know accidents do happen and i have had plenty but dang it. Does anyone know of a way to re-color the vinyl?

I once used a vinyl spray on a camaro car seat, back in the 80s changing it black. For something like a car seat that has constant wear and tear it never rubbed off. I would spray it before I pay for a new roof. Especially if its in good shape.
