If any body wants to do like the factory on painting the grills is you first polish the chrome Clean the painted areas Put your two or three coats of black on And then wipe it off the chrome areas Do you mean put a coat of car polish on the chrome strips and paint everything? It will wipe off the chrome?

I actually apply a light coat of vaseline over the Chromed areas, paint everything then wipe off the chromed areas. Won't need any solvent and will come out easily

I polish the chrome with a buffing wheel It takes the oxide of and smooths out the Imperfections

When using polish or vaseline how long did you wait before wiping off the paint?

Once is dry is good. That will prevent to accidentally touch the paint with the cloth being wet and maybe will need to paint again.

Should the grill be matte finish or semi-gloss?

"Charger72", diverted/inspired me to paint the grill parts.q I used Nachos vaseline method to masking and it worked. Though I'd be careful about using the vaseline method in hot weather. The pits are a bit disappointing, I thought I sanded them flat enough but they are visible again. A friend said that pits will always returned unless they are drilled out and filled. Oh well, it looks much better either way. Some areas of the Chromed surface was worn off showing black underneath. I used a silver (paint pen) to touch these areas up and it made a huge difference. It not reflective like the chrome but still looked way better than the worn to black areas. ...picture I used my fingernail on a piece of paper towel to wipe off the surface paint. ...picture
