Rats... floor jack leaking all over; pull the little beastie apart and... Houston, we have a problem... Anyone know where to find a couple replacement seals? They're not rubber o-rings, not sure what they're made of exactly. From a Sears model 214124500 1.5 ton floor jack. Sears doesn't carry any parts for it anymore. Okay so it's 30+ years old, BUT I LIKE IT! And before anyone starts with the 'Just go buy a new jack...' advise, I'd really rather repair the one I have. I just can't throw away a $100 jack because of a couple o-rings that must exist out there somewhere...

I hate to say it but if you take them to a Napa or a Fishers auto parts store Iam sure they could find something close to it. After 30+ years seals get hard.. I would say that if you knew of a parts store that has been open that long thats the place i would go to match it up. #Twocents# #Twocents# #Twocents#

Since you believe them to be seals, as opposed to O-rings, I believe I would take them to your local pump repair and/or hydraulic repair shop...
Either one of those should have a ton of seals in their inventory, that--hopefully--one of their people can match to your seals. (And they would have rubber O-rings as well, if that should turn out to be what they are.)
Hey, it's worth a shot. ;D...after all, what else is a floor jack but a manual hydraulic pump?
If you don't have a shop like that in your area, and you run into a brick wall, send me a PM (followed by the seals), and I'll check the shops in this area...
Due to the predominant agriculture and oilfield industries in this area, we have many, many of those types of supply/repair facilities.
Shouldn't take but a day or two to mail them here (and back), since you're right up the road from me.
Jer.

mopar1charger.........I will give ya the kudos you deserve...I said O-rings ..........Rubber O-rings come in different types of material....most are EPDM rubber, better ones are Viton rubber there are teflon, neoprene , o-rings and a plethora of other materials......call them seals or o-rings.....I believe (maybe wrong ) but those are an o-ring seals......seals usually have a metal backing on them..such as a bearing seal/timing cover seal.. An exert from the Web... The original hydraulic seals were primarily LEATHER and ROPE PACKING. Today, a hundred years later, leather still is being used but has mostly given way to poly-urethane and neoprene. World War II brought about wide spread acceptance of neoprene O-RINGS as an effective yet inexpensive seal and they remain with us today, along with their slightly more effecient cousins, the QUAD RING. O-RING BACK-UP RINGS, first of leather and now commonly of plastic are popularly used to keep the round o-rings from moving around and being distorted in their usually square retaining grooves. So why the debate over whether they are O-rings?...they are...now just to find out what material they are ...that is the question... I felt like stirring the pot as my coffee was horrible this morning..and its raining #stirthepot# #stirthepot# #stirthepot#
