Wow.... lots of interesting stuff. There may be some merit to the hood style theory. I am sure you will also find a correlation to build date. Changes like this are common and usually take into account service concerns like (ie. will this new design revision work as a replacement for earlier revision level parts?). For what it's worth, my Super Bee has what charger440sixpac (excellent work, sir... Thanks!). is calling the first configuration. It is a fairly early build car... SPD October 6 (Halloween car). Pic below. It's funny... of the over a thousand pics I have, most of them do not show the area forward of the rad.

The only thing missing right now is the different positions on the hood, for these to rest against. If some one posted a picture of a 71 hood vs a 74 hood the under side. It would show this very clear.

Had a chance to dig thru the parts manual today and there's only one set of part numbers listed for the fenders - 12-01-5 3579684 Fender, 2 D.H.T., Fast back (right) 12-01-5 3579685 Fender, 2 D.H.T., Fast back (left) And the three hoods - 15-03-3 3482018 Hood panel, WH 2 D.H.T., WP 2 D.H.T., & Fast back, Std. 15-03-3 3482535 Hood panel, WM & WS 2 D.H.T., w/426 or 440 Eng. 15-03-3 3482471 Hood panel, WM & WS 2 D.H.T., w/Fresh Air One theory is they began with the single mount location version (the one with the bumper to the rear) and somewhere along the line made a modification to move the bumper location forward (perhaps for the heavier AG & ornamented hoods?). The fender shop then started producing the double pierce nut versions so inventory of older hoods with the bump plate to the rear as well as newer hoods modified to relocate the plate forward could be fitted (until inventory of the old hoods was depleted). Once all these older hoods were used, the fender shop produced the final variant with the bumper forward but no longer needed the pierce nut on the back mount. Another thing that occurred to me is that the bumper location may affect the front radiator yoke to hood seal; maybe it was redesigned to address water leakage? But there's only one hood to yoke seal listed - 15-03-5 3442118 Seal, Hood to Yoke But, hey, it's Chrysler, who knows...

Trunk seals are also different between 71 cars and the rest.. The 71 uses a seal for cars from 63-71.... I used a seal that said 72-74 on my 71 and no matter what I did I couldn't get the trunk closed or lined up... The seals look totally different...I now have a 71 seal on order.. I have no idea why they are different as I have no other car to compare with

Here is a pic of a 73 Ralley hood thats on my 74 Ralley. The bumper lines up with the small square hole near the rubber seal. Yes, its very dirty under there. Give me some time, I am getting there! lol Hey GreenGo, if you want to sell that trunk seal, I want it. I am going to have to buy everything anyway so I might as well start. Gary
