Woh! Yours not only has it in the forward position, like the '73 in Nacho's photos, & nukeem's '74, but it still has the pierce nut for the old rearward position!

Could the 71 be a replacement fender? ? I have a 71 fender passenger side that came out of Michigan that has the duel stops too. The factory replacement Drivers side does not have the duel stops Another set of 71 fenders has the duel stops also

Perhaps another mid 71 model change? The hoodpin holes are forward of the 2 bumper spots circled, so they have no bearing on the matter. were hoodpins an option through all 4 years

Thanks for the hood pin info. My car build sheet said it came with hoodpins but it does not currently have them. I planned on reinstalling them later. I really hate to drill holes in that 73 ralley too.

Could the 71 be a replacement fender? ? I wondered that too Mike. I have 2 NOS front fenders for mine. Might have to dig them out tonight and see what's what. Now I'm curious. The question I now have is...IF they moved the bumper from '71/'72 to a different spot for '73/'74, is the hood inner different also? Wouldn't the "landing pad" for this bumper have to move as well? Seems that on this board we've always thought of '71 - '74 hoods as interchangeable, except for the visual differences of the cowl vent. But now I'm wondering..... OR....and you're going to love this one.....is that bumper actually in the same spot in relation to the hood....and the front end sheet metal moved around? IE: The inner fenders & core support moved in relation to the hood stops?

IE: The inner fenders & core support moved in relation to the hood stops? I spent some time digging thru the reference photos that I've accumulated and it appears that there are three configurations used on 1971 Chargers. The first configuration is a bumper located just behind the front radiator support yoke; no provision for a second bumper forward. The second configuration is a bumper located forward of the yoke; provision for the rear bumper but without a pierce nut. There are also two smaller holes just forward of the bumper but I have no photo showing anything mounted or attached here... Note the CORRECT attachment point for the hood pin lanyard. The third configuration is a bumper located forward of the cross brace; provision for the rear bumper including a pierce nut. Note the INCORRECT attachment of hood pin lanyard in two of these photos (which would result in the need for longer cables). The theory of different hoods appears to be a good guess, here's what my R/T hood looks like on the underside where the bumper contacts it (radiator support seal removed). It is designed to allow for use of bumpers in both locations! I haven't been able to correlate the hood type with the fender configuration, I don't have enough data. But there were three types of hoods, flat, fresh-air & w/insert (R/T & SuperBee). A clue maybe? #Scope#
