This build isn't mine, was just saying what heads are on my motor for right now... I don't know what d.c.1973 has on their motor... The heads I have waiting to go on my motor, well, let's just say that it'll have more than 400 horse power, lol. Also, with a properly worked set of heads, you can make a bit more than just 400 horse power, but it does depend on the over all build.. I've heard a good bit of stuff about the Lunati VooDoo camshaft lineup, for a lil more factory type 440 build, the 60303 is a nice one, if you were running a stroker kit, the 60305 (I think this is the biggest one that they list) would be a nice way to go... Now with this being said, I'm not going to put myself out there and say that these are the best to run in any motor, just saying that I've heard nice things about them so...

"hotrodder" Ya the VooDoo's are a great cam a lot of people run them in their mopars. with a 400ci or even in a stroker kit these engine will make a lot of HP. I figure from a bunch of engine builds like 440 & 383's i'll take them round off with his 400. 400ci just need some good vitamins to get going.
I've got a 400ci right now im going to rebuild. It'll be over the 500hp mark easily. When ig et some extra cash I'll go to aluminum heads, bigger intake/carb and rocker arms.

Yeah, I sold a couple of parts to a guy who's finally seen the light, quit messing with the chevys and fords and came on over to Mopar Haven . Though I can't remember what project car he decided on (I know it wasn't a 3rd gen Charger so), he did decide to go big block, and got his hands on a 400... I asked him what his plans are for it, and he gave me a run down... Sadly, it sounded like a basic chevy build... So I kinda steered him in a better direction for the bbm. As per my exp with parts hunting for the 400, I told him that he could stick with the factory bottom end, but would have to get a set of custom pistons, and depending on gasket and head used, try to keep around a 10:1. I also gave him some other pointers about these motors, he ended up coming back and bought a couple more parts lol. I suppose my bbm knowledge grabbed his attn, and he said he looks forward to speaking more with me on the subject... Shame he's over an hour away, and from the way it seems, all his bud's are either chevy or ford folks... I also put the ole stroker idea in his head... Probably sold him on it too.... Here's the basic guideline I told him, factory block (assume .030 will clean up), stroker kit (451 would be great for what he's looking to do), factory heads fine (see prev work listed) or after market aluminum, dual plane aluminum intake, around an 850 cfm carb, electronic ign, ect... Seems he wants around 500 horse power, and drive it on the street... Since he wasn't sure on tire size nor gear ratio, I told him depending on cam selection, this kind of motor should produce enough torque to make a numerically low (high range) gear setup seem like something else... Also, by starting with a nice foundation, you'll have something that you can build on later down the road should you want... So as I said, based on the run down I gave him and all, I think he was probably leaning more toward the stroker set up, he also got to see the worked set of Stealth heads I have, and he liked them, . I will have to use a Mr. Gasket #302 intake gasket set with these heads... As for a factory 400, had it came along a lil earlier, and ma Mopar could have gotten the comp up to that 10:1 range from the factory then the 400 would have had a different opinion, but it came out with the EPA looking to do all they were and such so.. It, imo, didn't have much of a chance...

Ya, I'm going to 500ci. I just have to make a few small notches on the block. nothing drastic or difficult, i want to keep it simple. I was going to stick with the SB but i was going to make it a 408 stroker with just over 500hp and it needed new heads so i found a 400ci complete with 727 for 400$ and now im doing the Big Block thing. After this though im focusing my money on the car itself lol

I was looking at the cast crank in the 400ci the other night and is it normal for one of the couunter weights to look like swiss cheese almost. Like its got a few small holes, not deep. I've never seen that before on a cast crank. Anyone else seen this before?
