My A/C doesn't work so I am thinking of getting rid of it. I remember somebody on the old site looking for pullies for a non a/c car and not finding them. I don't really think I need the A/C, that's what power windows are for. Are there any special parts I need besides new pullies and heat adjuster and fan switch? I also want to clean up the engine bay a bit. Dan

...My A/C doesn't work so I am thinking of getting rid of it...Are there any special parts I need besides new pullies and heat adjuster and fan switch? Dan Dan, Just got back...haven't even opened the hood on the new and improved Shadowfax II...but: His listing said it was an A/C car but everything had been removed. Soooo, this opens up a whirlwind of possibilites... Depending on what size engine you have, and what year car you have, IF the pulleys will interchange with my 318, I'd be willing to give them to you and some cash for all of your "under hood" AC stuff...(you like cash, don't ya Dan?...I mean cash is a good thing, right?) I'm just assuming someone changed my pulleys....they COULD have just used different length belts, etc. I have a book with all the pulley numbers, belt numbers, hose numbers, and all of that for each car, broke down into AC/non AC...let me do some investigating...but if you're serious about "dumping" your AC, I'd love to have the parts I'm missing. Unlike you, I NEED the A/C...I'm a Sweat Hog anyway, and this new car does NOT have power windows!!....but I'm not EVEN going to go there, as far as installing power windows...I'm having a hard enough time getting ONE on the HB1 440 car up to snuff!! Thanks , Bro...standing by. Jer.

I believe that was me asking about the pulley thing on the other site. almost all the pulleys and the power steering stuff has to be changed. I think it was Nacho that made the list of things needed. I gave up when trying to get the right set of pulleys became a little difficult. I went to carlise and most wanted 40 50 bucks for the pulley sets used. I found a guy who had a set and paid 25$ for them. They were marked BB non ac on the label. Well now I have a set of pulleys that are worthless because they were not the right ones. I decided to put everything back on.

Could it be that bob has the SB non ac pulleys?! I'd like to see an easier way for a hotrodder to mix n match (find what works). Back when I was a forklift mechanic we always junked generators in favor of a cheap/reliable gm alt. We had to modify brackets & use shims. Piece of cake. Sometimes all a book is good for is the pictures cause part numbers don't come with dimentions

They were actually BB but to what who knows. There are companies out there that sell the sets but you know me.....I'm cheap.

You need to get BB puleys for non AC to 73 and later setup. remember earlier than 72, chart belt is diff.
need:
Basically and really just need a deeper water pump pulley to match with alt first groove ( the one closer to alt ), then run the belt between alt, water pump and crank.
Now for the RIGHT setup, I think crank pulley is diff too, and of course get the single alt pulley.
Then about brackets, get the non A/C alt bracket set. Alt doesn't change really the position between A/C and NON A/C cars, just that Compressor use the same bolts than the Non A/C alt bracket, so A/C alt bracket was relocated on deeper bolts of water pump housing. So thats the reason why on A/C cars the alt bracket fits on back of front "ear" instead in front of the front "ear".
Then that's why also NON A/C cars have a hole in the middle to get acces to water temp sender, because hides the sender, for a while, A/C alt brackets are smaller and doesn't hide teh sender, fits just right at a side of sender.
Lower alt bracket also id dif beteen A/C and NON A/C, but you are fine of that since A/C are stronger, because should it be with an "arm"runing to engine mount location. NON A/C lower bracket is simple a strap to get adjusted, without the extra arm.

Thanks for th offer Jer, but in case I want to switch back to A/C I want to keep the old stuff. I guess I could try fixing the A/C but it hasn't been retrofitted for 134a yet.
