Be forewarned: This might look like a ..... Why is it that real wood must be smooth to show quality & craftmanship? Yet, imitation wood must show a topography in its surface that no carpenter would pass off as a job well done? I'm to the point that I think justice might take more than an airbrush. Any ideas? I would like to see our dash inserts look more classy! More real! More ....... Any ideas? Any suggestions?

Brock, There are numerous companies that "restore" the "woodgrain" of our cars (cluster bezels, dash inserts, etc.)...Performance Car Graphics is doing my dash insert. As far as anything but the original look, you're on your own... although I do have an airbrush template of Flower Power Graphics!! (poppies, psychedelic symbols, etc.) Is that what you are looking for?...something along what the Hippie buses looked like on their way to Woodstock?

I like the woodgrain on the doors & console OK - but the dash just never looked right to me. If not for needing to make an appointment when starting this thread I'd have put up this pic of real Brazillian Rosewood. Now it would be sweet to have real wood - but Real Rosewood is very hard to come by. I only found stickers from PCG Jer (No flowers though - dang it) Got a link?

Before I forget...NICE BASSES YA GOT THERE, THUMPER!! #RockOn# Here's the link to my thread that covers your cluster bezel, Brock: wichargerguy.proboards101.com/index.cgi?board=shopping2&action=display&thread=876&page=1Pay attention to the quote from David in green: [ Wed. 11-21-07 8:58 AM Hi Jerry, We have been restoring 1971-74 B body ralleye instrument clusters for many years, including the wood-instruments-air controls-switches. There will never be a do-it-yourself on the wood because it is a molded-in grain in the black plastic. That is chrome plated by us, followed by air-brushing on the two wood colors. Thanks, David--Performance Car Graphics] The guy is easy to "talk to" either via email or telephone, Brock, and chattin' with these guys is right up your alley. Keep us informed on you progress. (I'll check further on the Flower Power/Psychedelic stuff for ya!! Bob says I'm an old Hippie, anyway--wonder how he knew?) But then he was an Army Grunt while I was busy protesting, smoking pot, making free love, and generally being a nuisance! ~Jer~

I keep forgetting there is a Online Parts Stores & Dealers Section. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to look them up tomorrow for an example of their airbrush work. Alas, it would take a time machine to find a piece of Brazillian Rosewood large enough to do a cluster Guess it's just as well I'd probably do something silly with it - like make a set of wings for a bass body out of it

Now it would be sweet to have real wood - but Real Rosewood is very hard to come by. How about some of this from Rockler? www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2213 with you 100%. I had hoped to come up with a donor bezel, make a negative impression of it in fiberglass, so I would then have a two piece "press". Build a steaming box, and clamp the desired veneer between the two pieces, and see how much damage I could do! I have a friend who does a lot of wood working, so I thought I'd tap him on the shoulder for some help when the time comes. But I am going to try it. I want a real wood veneer over the plastic stuff in all my cars, Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge. But of the 3, to me the Charger is in the most desperate need.

Hey Dyno, Tell you what: I can try to build up the cut out radio hole on my spare cluster bezel. We can take the steam box idea to the next level - if my repair turns out good enough! Gonna be slow going though. Now it would be sweet to have real wood - but Real Rosewood is very hard to come by. Well, those veneers don't have any strength, but you could repair the bezel damage any number of other ways (fiberglass, cat hair, some Bondo with steel strips for reinforcements), then put a veneer over the repair to hide it.

Exactly! Whatever I use will be smooth which is just right for a veneer cover

Went ahead & ordered a piece of Rosewood veneer from Rockler for a cluster - naturally it isn't available in large enough pieces for doors & console. Pics upon reciept!
