I've been doing some reading on the 6.1 Hemi lately, when I came across the bore and stroke and found it remarkable similar to that of the 360(5.9L). (4.05 Bore and 3.58 Stroke) Does anyone know if the 6.1 is based on the 360 or is this just a coincidence.

Well the bore is only 50 thousandth bigger, but it was really the stroke that got me wondering. I was talking to a engine machinist about rebuilding my 360. and he said that 50 thousands is doable. I also remember a guy in high school that had bored his 360 60 thousandth over. But mostly what I was looking at is if it is the same block what else is the same. Because I would think that it would be a sweet motor to replace my 360 with.

Looking at doing a rebuild and the local dodge dealership figures the 6.1 will be out next year as a crate motor. Do you guys think it would be worth the extra $$$$$. The machinist says he can get pretty much the same horsepower out of my old 360 for a lot less coin. I read in the mopar mags that people put in viper engines and 5.2's with mpi. Maybe someone could give me some pros and cons between the 2 ideas. Maybe some personal experience. What would you guys do and why.

Putting in the new hemi's would be fun, however unless you buy a aftermarket brain, you a pretty limited to what you do. I think there is some company making a aftermarket fully programmable ecu, maybe FAST. Other than that, you are stuck with stock programming and reprogrammers. I now of one person who put a 5.7 in his Challenger and used a gm ecu because it can be completely modified.
As for the v10's, they are a lot of work. Firewall mod's are a must from my understanding.
I feel the biggest advantage using the 6.1 compared to the 360 would be that I maybe more effecient design, plus fuel injection (if you use it). AFtermarket components are starting to pop up for the new hemi so it should help.

I would go with the original 360 lots cheaper more raw power for the buck spent.
Dont get me wrong the new engines are cool, But I would be totaly tested to do a swap of that magnatude And I am a very good wrench. So If your not a total wiz in Today's auto electronics wireing and programing your ganna buy alot more problems than you can handle.
