Can a rally instrument cluster be installed in a non rally 73 charger that has a sweep speedometer. If so does anything have to be modified or is it plug and play.

I believe the wiring harness is different. And if there are idiot lights, the senders under the hood need to be replaced as well.

Thanks for the replies and the link. This sounds complicated,I have a 72 Plymouth rally dash I would like to put in my 73 Charger.it sounds like I need to get a harness.I'm pretty capable to do a lot of things and thought maybe it was just rerouting some wires and changing some sending units.I hope I'm not trying to bite off more than I can chew.

is not really complicated. Getting the propper harness ( 72/73 ) is a plug and play job. Just requires to change the oil sender.
without harness just some wire splices, sockets and bullet kind terminals, ALTHOUGH eyelet and nuts is valid too.

Thanks for the information Nacho-RT74 that's a big help it doesn't sound to bad any more. Thanks for the move to electrical too.I've been a member for two years, but I'm still a newbie when it comes to posting this stuff. This is a Great site. Thank you to everybody that responded it's all a big help.

Has anybody done this before and knows where each wire goes, where to ad the light sockets, voltage limiter, etc.My old dash has the big plug and the circuit board.I'm confused.

I never have done it BUT its not that hard to do it.
need around 10 or 12 sockets chassis grounded ( available at parts shops as far I know ) one socket two wires and chassis isolated ( thats for the brake bulb ) 6 90ยบ bullet kind terminals, ALTHOUGH it can be substituted by eyelet terminals and nuts to reach the gauges stud. couple of female spade terminals
need to make the orange wire lines from one splice to each socket ( cluster lighting ), elongate tan and light green wires to two sockets for turning light pilots, red wire to high beams. Need to get the cluster ground wire to the voltage limiter chassis prong ( note this is wider than regular ones )
elongate blue, violet and gray wires to reach the gauges studs from senders signals ( blue gas, violet temp, gray oil ) and attach the bullet kind terminal OR the idea about the eyelet and nuts.
ned to build the voltage limiter wiring to gauges studs ( opposite side than the senders wires ) On standard cluster this limiter gets the power from RUN circuit from a blue traced wire, and rallyes gets the power from ACC circuit witha black wire. You can live with the RUN circuit for them, but if you want a stockish clsuter reaction, then will need to run an ACC source for the voltage limiter
the brake light gets the power from RUN circuit ( blue traced wire ) and the black wire coming from prop valve sender AND emergency brake switch ( both are spliced on same line arriving to standard cluster plug )
its pretty much a straight job. I would say the hardest part is try to find all the correct plugs and sockets, specially maybe the brake light socket to fit correctly into the brake light cavity.
IF need a diagram to the conversion, check the TECH ARCHIVES section. I posted there several diagrams. On 71 diagrams thread you'll find standard and rallye clusters diagrams on same thread what will help you on the conversion. There are couple more diagrams around, bigger that will help you too
95% of this sources are on standard cluster round plug
HOWEVER, if you have the patiente, will try to wait for a rallye dahs harness opportunity. Don't wait it came to you by itself, dig some JY around

Thank you Nacho the information it's great.I do have a couple of other questions. The orange wires,I have one that is attached to a bulb socket and one in the plug do I use both of the for the light sockets? On the voltage limiter I see the blue traced wire to run on a standard cluster, but there is also a black traced wire is this the one for the stockish rally cluster if not do I just eliminate this wire.I think I have two extra wires coming from my plug that aren't listed here.I've been looking at the diagrams in TECH archives to try and sort it out.I'm sure I can do this I'm just trying to cover all my bases before I start. The weather is nice here now and I'm still driving the car to cruises and shows that are close to my house. The standard cluster has no speedometer,no temp gauge, and the previous owner butchered the dash to put a after market stereo system in.I will probably do this in a week or two. Thanks again this is a great website.
