Recently I discovered that the secondaries were not opening on the Carter Thermoquad (or at least sometimes not), sitting atop my 440. I'm not sure why the lever which moves the secondary engage latch wasn't working properly. Everything looked OK, but when I'd park the car and look at things, that lever wouldn't be in the engage position. Anyway, I decided to modify the latch so secondaries are always available. A hole was drilled as pictured, tapped for a 6-32 screw. This holds the latch in the engage position. Obviously, this mod means the driver must apply throttle in a judicious manner when the engine is cold and choke is partly closed, or a major stumble would probably occur. Perhaps others have seen this problem.... Maybe this would be a solution. Oh, yes, having the secondaries open makes a bunch of performance difference!! Increases the fun factor, and tire wear!

In thinking on this, perhaps this issue is due to the choke having no manual cable, or a thermostatic control. No attempts have been made to this point to setup such. Even though the choke pull-off is present, it is still possible the choke butterfly rests in a less than full open/off vertical position, and this moves the engage linkage just enough to allow the latch lever to fall to the "no engage" position.
I may try to fabricate a bracket to allow cable manual control, particularly if I decide to stay with the thermoquad.
There is no exhaust heat to the manifold, so electric would be the only option for an auto choke.
