The load levelers are really designed for when you fill up the trunk and / or add passengers. They keep the rear from sagging under pressure. I used my 71 charger in the late 70's and early 80's to move back and forth to college. I can tell you first hand that the air shocks did no harm. Were great when I filled up the trunk with my books and stuff (aired up to 110 lbs.) and went to pick up my Grandparents in Brooklyn to bring them for a visit in Queens (aired up to 90 lbs.). I keep my 71 Superbee at 65 lbs. and my 60 year old back is fine. The only suggestion I have, and I mentioned it in another thread, is to run two air fill lines and NOT "T" the two together. This is because when one side hits a bump, it will compress the shock and air, driving the air to the other side, expanding that shock. In the 70's when I had my first 71 Charger, I installed the remote valves in the bottom of my rear bumper on each side of the car. The 71 I have now, I ran the lines up under the car, over the rear, and into the trunk. The valves are installed on the two extra loops of metal on the seams of the inner wells on opposite sides of the trunk. I did upload the pics somewhere here. Will look for them if you're interested. Those have become quite popular. I see them on a lot of cars at the shows I go to. Being able to match the color of your car makes it even better.
Then of course, there's that whole "being able to see to drive" thing.
