Ok, if an electrical fuel pump is added near the fuel tank will there be any need to by pass the mechanical fuel pump? Also, will a 4-7 psi pump be sufficient?

I would remove the mechanical pump and install a block off plate. I would also install a low pressure regulator.

I would remove the mechanical pump and install a block off plate. I would also install a low pressure regulator. Me too. The mechanical is still creating extra drag on the engine that is not needed, can still leak, and is a place for heat transfer from the engine into the fuel. All bad things.

Thanks. The only reason I contemplated keeping the mechanical was in case the electric pump dies I could bypass the pump and have the mechanical as a back up. What is a good PSI?

Curious where did you install the electric pump Second question is the pump going to be active if you for some dumb reason get in an accident, is there some sort of relay to shut it off? Always thinking

Always thinking I didn't install it or buy one yet. I'm like everyone else and trying for the quick start and not the crank, crank, crank. Don't know about a relay.

That last statement crank, crank, crank is my problem too. So electric pump is the answer???

I have heard that some use the electric pump as a "boost pump" to help with hard starting after sitting with this witches brew of gas we are forced to use. They just turn it on for a few seconds to prime the line then run car on mechanical pump. board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=7206211My friend runs on on his HEMI Daytona since it sits along time and no more crank crank crank after sitting. I think edelbrock recommends 6.0 psi max at idle? JON

I would definately run a relay for an electric pump. I just put a new fuel system into my 74. I ran it on a relay and wired it into the key so it turns the pump on in the accessory position, similar to a new car. I dont have an extra switch to turn it on or off.
my relay is not setup to shut it on in case of an accident, but if my the power is killed it will kill off the fuel as well. Mine is setup more as a race car though. fuel cell in the trunk, battery in the trunk with a shut off rod out the back, etc.
I will say using my new setup the cranking time is greatly reduced after sitting. I hit the key to accessory a few times to build pressure, then let it go and it fires up very quick.
