I was wondering if anyone knows if theres a newer 5 spd transmission say 1990's + that bolt up to a '74 400 bb? I would like to more modernize my 74 Charger SE and get a 5 spd if its possible. I go to the pull apart yards and see trans there all the time and theyre fairly cheap to buy, I wanted to find out for sure if it can be done and or which trans I can look for before going in. Thanks.

Check out my Charger thread as I have a TKO 600 in my car. Charger hardtop becomes a Superbee. Members restorations I believe?

If Passon can deliver, that's the route to take but it's not cheap! $4400 I believe. Keisler is in trouble but not sure about American Powertrain? That's where I got mine.

I was perusing the site the other night and came across your post. I know of (4) four companies that offer 5 speed and 6 speed conversions. Tremec - you need to go to Hurst-Drivelines for pricing, Keisler, American Powertrain and TciAuto. They all offer conversions from automatic to 5 and 6 speed or 4 speed to 5 or 6 speed. I don't know anything about them personally. I do know Keisler is in a little financial trouble right now and for some reason Car Craft magazine doesn't seem to be a fan of them. The packages usually start in the low $4000 range. If you're converting from an automatic you will probably be in the upper $4000 range. If you go wild with options and accessories you can easily go over $5000. I came across another business, Brewers Performance. They claim to be A833 specialist and offer a conversion from automatic to a 4 speed. You can usually get a warranty of 1 or 2 years from any of these companies. Then again if the company goes under which may eventually happen to Keisler, the warranty doesn't mean much.

If I were doing a conversion, I would use the new Passon 5 speed.
To say that Keisler is in a little financial trouble is an understatement. They are belly up and dead.

I have heard the Passion 5 speed has been delayed until at least the end of the year and at that point they have a line of 400+ people signed up for their new 5sp. It does sound like a great idea though to have a dimensionally identical 5sp to the A833.
I wish my car wasn't an auto. :-(
