My daughter used to call it the Ugly Little Black Truck and was mortified when Grandpa and Grandma would pick her up from middle school in it. What's worse it's a single cab bench seat so she had to squeeze in the middle.
Back up, It's a 1981 Dodge Ram D50 2WD, 5 speed with a big 2.6 4 cylinder. It's really a Mitsubishi. Once my son turned 16 he buffed out that black paint and the body was straight as an arrow. We had the seat recovered in original light blue.. Black carpet was in good shape. It was my uncle's in California and he was probably 80 years old when he bought it in 1981. When my dad got it had about 80K miles on it. Dad used it for poking around his ranch. He always dogged the clutch, Barely keeping the engine running in the highest gear he could. When Dad passed it became the general ranch's truck. As mentioned my son loved it and its high gas mileage. He lettered THE LITTLE BLACK TRUCK on the tail gate. We put a new battery in it and after 10 starts the starter was gone. I had to reach way up in there get the stsrter off then turn it in for credit. AUTO ZONE gave us a free one since the old one was still on warranty. Buttoned it up and it's good for another 100k miles
It's called a D50 ROYAL which means it has carpeting AC, PS PB. Wheels with hubcaps. Runs like a sewing machine

Nice story. I bought a new Mitsubishi Mighty Max back in the day. Same set up, 5 speed 4 cyl. Loved that little truck. It got like a bazillion miles per gallon.
