Ok here goes, this may not be the correct way or even what you would prefer but it is what I am doing. I'm tired of the hard starts and fuel evaporation so this is what I have done so far.
Here is what I purchased, about 100 bucks so far. The pump is a 5-7 psi.
I did go to NAPA and purchase a steel fuel line to make u turns for the fuel supply to the pump. I placed a steel pipe in the vice and gently wrapped it around it.
The fuel tank strap retaining nut was replaced with a nut with a built in washer to keep the stud away from the strap in order to put the mounting bracket on there.
I made this bracket to slide over the fuel tank strap bolt. I used the original strap nut to mount the bracket since the diameter is thinner than standard nuts.
I mounted the fuel pump to the bracket with small stove bolts so it would not push away from the strap to much.
Mount the bracket and pump to the fuel tank strap bolt.
Don't forget to hook up your ground clip for the fuel tank ground and plug the wire into the fuel sending unit.
Here is the u turn I made and connected a new fuel line to it. You can notice the ground strap hooked to the fuel tank and fuel line.
Same line different angle.
You can see the fuel line coming around to the fuel pump inlet. I used the second u I made to line up with the pump inlet. You can see how I used zip strips to snug everything up so it does not rub or rattle. The out side of the pump hooks right to the fuel line to the mechanical fuel pump.
The pump ground wire hooks right to the pump mounting bolt with a second nut. I could not figure out how to run my hot wire forward. I opened the trunk and emptied everything out and removed the carpet. The fuel sending unit wire goes through a small grommet in the floor. Perfect! I punched a hole through it and ran a wire down through it.
I removed the rear seat bottom and ran the wire along side the wiring harness all the way to under the dash. My next chapter is hooking up the switch to the source that only works when the key is turned.
I know the pump is suppose to be lower than the tank but I spoke with many people and some even have it mounted on top there tanks. I wanted everything tucked up under so no one can see it and have it mounted so nothing would hit it while driving.
Stay tuned.
