True SE's will have a VIN beginning with 'WP29'.
Couple exterior things I look for on a true SE, the front and rear bumper reveal mouldings are unique to the SE. The canopy vinyl roof was standard on the SE but could be ordered on other models I think. Concealed headlamps and inside hood release were standard on the SE but could also be added to other models. M31 belt and hood rear moulding and M42 front valance (stone shield) moulding were also SE standard items but I've seen many SE's without the M42 moulding. The W11 deluxe wheel covers were also SE standard equipment.
Inside, the dash insert emblem (Charger SE) and the upper door panels are the only unique SE things I can think of. The cloth and vinyl split back seats w/folding center armrest was standard for the SE but could also be ordered for the 500. SE optional interiors included the cloth and vinyl bucket or leather bucket seats.
Standard mill was the 318-2bbl. A 383-2bbl, 383-4bbl or 440-4bbl were options for the SE; the 225, 340, 440-6 & 426 were not 'offically' available for SE's.

A Power Bulge Hood (PBH) complete with 440 magnum callouts on the bubble covering a 400 magnum motor A tilt column, not on the build sheet A "correct" Gull Wing--not Go Wing--Rear Deck Spoiler, but correct for 71, not 72, which never had a rear wing option A front air dam/spoiler A Tuff Wheel, not on the build sheet A Landau Black paint job, with white vinyl top, also not correct per the build sheet A COMPLETE black interior (including carpet, dash, panels, seats),.... original was blue
A correct Rallye Dash , but with the Tach replaced by a clock, because at my age time is more important than RPM knowledge....I have instruments in my garage if I need to know that.
A set of remote-controlled electric trunk & hood lock release(s) swiped from C-Bodies, buttons in the glove box.
A set of Gabriel Hi-Jacker air shocks on the rear
A set of Cragar S/S wheels all the way around, 15" (x10 on rear, x8 on front)....originals were 14'' Rallyes
A set of 295/50 rear and 245/60 front Cooper Cobra raised white letters....originals were F78-14 Firestones
AND MY FAVORITE (shout-out to a certain JunkYard Dawg for his ingenuity and creativity): A chromed bullet-style racing remote-controlled outside mirror on the passenger side to match my driver's side....WITH REMOTE CABLE ran to the "joystick control" mounted on the dash panel in the vicinity of the radio knobs.... a remote controlled passenger mirror was never an option on any 3rd Generation B-body !!
You forgot to mention the custom R/T tail lights with chromed bezels.

Maybe we should start a thread titled what's not on your brag sheet?

As for engines you left out the 400. My first car, a true 72 SE came with a 400 4 barrel with duel snorkel air cleaner. Most if not all the other things can be added to a base Charger.
The one thing that stands out and can't be realistically changed is the back side windows, (at least on the 72). The back edge is straight vertical instead of angled toward the back at the top.

You forgot to mention the custom R/T tail lights with chromed bezels. WHY YES I DID, DIDN'T I ?? !! Actually I think I did pretty well in remembering as much as i did...considering all of the "minor" distractions in my life right now. I think I probably forgot about the chromed R/T taillight bezels, because I don't have the lenses for them anymore... I let some New Yawhk transplanted redneck talk me out of them, so I guess--in my mind's eye, anyway--they're not registering on my upgrade/resto/modify meter.

After the initial 72 SE production, the most common thing to notice that makes an SE recognizable from a distance is the quarter window treatment. Pretty soon after the 72 SE was introduced, the quarter windows got a patch that closed off much of it & was covered by a full vinyl top. Then we all recognize the 73 - 74 vent style quarter windows with a unique partial vinyl top. There was an exception to the rule on the 73 - 74 SE: but it is uncommon. This exception has the same quarter window plug, but with a non vented surround & a full vinyl top. The VIN on a true SE starts with WP in all 71 - 74 models.
I actually am a numbers guy; if only because some cars are rare enough & complete enough to deserve preservation. Jer seems to have sold his numbers matching 72 SE U code 440. I believe it should remain stock. The SE he kept.... why not have fun with it? My 72 SE is the most common big block (400-2bbl) in the most common color (dark gold poly). It will not remain stock. I traded the front bench for 75 Doba buckets before leaving the lot I bought it from!!! I have pedals & a 4 speed & a 440 for it. I have a console & a tach too. The 8.25 rear has to go. I have a 9.25 rear that will bolt right in! I want to make a canyon carver out of it. I believe the right example to start with was chosen!!!!
