Not 100% sure if it had anything to the cold or not.....but we had a blockage in our sewer line going out of the house.
The pipe and clean out port is buried about 2-3 inches under the ground where it exits the house.
"Stuff" was backing up when using shower, toilets, or washing machine.
Roto rooter guy (free estimate) wanted to remove the toilets and snake out pipes inside the house "as a starting point" for like $800.
I thought his analysis was "full of fecal matter".....
After he left, I noticed that clean out port outside was overflowing outside and leaving a puddle of stinky water. (He should have been looking for clean out port)
Had another person come snake the line outside the house today, which did the trick. $285 for about 20 minutes of work.
That line goes to city sewer system, not a septic tank.
I told my son we should buy a snake...and "go into business"
Also talked to my neighbor whose dad owns the house next door and lived there for a long time before I moved in.
His dad said this is not the first time.....and that my drain pipe is buried shallow at a minimal angle, that it was probably was weather related, when temps got down to single digits.
Anyway....it sure was nice to get a shower and use a toilet.
I did find out some interesting stuff about my system that I had no clue about...stuff I don't normally care to think about.
My outside pipe actually angles into my neighbors back yard and ties together with his exit pipe, into a single pipe (routed thru neighbors backyard) that goes to city sewer system.
The plumber absolutely did not want to believe that my neighbor and I share a line, but the angle of my pipe, along with my neighbors dad's previous knowledge....indicate that we do.
The City "main line" actually is behind our houses and services our street and the houses behind us.
