Was dropping the K frame to change out the original rubber insulators on my 73 SE. 3 bolts came out easy, the last one turned a bit then snapped off the welded nut inside the frame rail. Would cutting open the top of the frame rail directly over the nut allow me to remove the nut from the bolt, install a new nut and bolt up the new insulator, then weld up the top of frame rail? I thought going from the top would be better than the side as its only 1 thickness of steel at that point Any suggestions would be appreciated

I had the exact thing happen. 3 came out and the 4th just kept spinning. I could stick a skinny screwdriver into a hole in the frame and feel the nut catch it but not enough to stop it from spinning. I cut the head off the bolt with a reciprocating saw. I haven't dropped the K frame yet, but am hoping the hole for the bolt is large enough to weld the nut. If not, I plan to drill a few holes around the nut to be able to weld it back. Then I'll soak the bolt with penetrating oil and hopefully can get it out. That's the plan, anyway. I'm trying to do the least amount of damage to the frame rail that I can. Let us know how you make out, or if you have a better idea.

Hi e5charger. I ended up cutting a small 1"x2" piece out of the top of the frame rail. Soaking the nut/bolt in penetrating oil now. Hope to drive something along side the nut to hold it steady and wrench it out. If not, will use reciprocating saw to cut the bolt between frame rail and whats left of the 40 yr plus insulator. Fish out nut through opening on rail. If I can't get a welder to secure a new nut through the section I cut out, will just use a lock washer and new nut. The original insulators lasted 40 plus years, I dont plan on taking the k member off ever again. Let it soak for a day and will try again maybe Friday, fingers crossed

That sounds like a good plan. If my idea doesn't work, I will probably do the same. Is the opening large enough to take a photo of the nut? I'm curious how large it is and where it's welded. Good luck.

If you can get a torch and apply heat to nut and expand it, way better than penetrating fluid..
