Always late to the party......... My opinion is to never use the repro. hood or door hinges. Too much engineering to do them right. Always a compromise in fit or something. SMS does a good job rebuilding and rivets are correct but I would find the best cores possible to send. Duplicate the installed situation by putting in vise and move up and down and notice gear and rivet movement. They do rebuild the teeth but you want a set that has the least wear. The problem with the teeth wear is that it affects the closing part and will give you the dreaded "push down by hand" corner situation if it doesn't kick over right. While on the subject, I would like to share a little trick I learned years ago to put the springs on and not scratch them up. You can do this with the hinge in a vise or on the car. Hook the spring onto the back part of the hinge and then hook a fan belt onto the other end of the spring. Pull on the fan belt and hook up the other end of the spring onto the hinge. I asked a design engineer why this works and he said something about the belt giving enough to compensate for the tension in the spring. Only way I've found to do it easily. The only thing to watch for doing it on the car is if it slips off and sends the spring into your windshield. If that happens, I didn't tell you to do it and have never heard such a ridiculous idea.
